Aion V
Better than the C10 for: fast charging
If you’ll be using public chargers a lot, it’s worth going for an electric car with fast charging. The Leapmotor C10’s 84kW maximum charging rate enables a 10-80% top-up in about 45 minutes, which could get tiresome if you’re itching to get going. One faster-charging option is the Aion V, and its 180kW maximum rate almost halves the 10-80% time – despite the V having a larger battery than the C10. Aion’s electric SUV also goes further on a charge, and offers eight years of warranty, breakdown cover, servicing and MOT tests.

BYD Seal U
Better than the C10 for: having a petrol engine as a backup
The new Leapmotor C10 REEV is an impressive thing with a whisper-quiet engine and around 90 miles of electric range – plus a total of about 600 miles if you include the petrol engine. But it’s still very fresh and there aren’t many for sale so, if you can’t wait, check out the BYD Seal U instead. The Seal U has catapulted BYD to sales success in the UK, and there are loads available on the used market. Opt for the bigger battery version and you’ll get close to 80 miles of e-range.

Toyota bZ4X
Better than the C10 for: warranty
Electric SUVs like the C10 should be reliable because there aren’t many moving parts, but it’s reassuring to grab one with a long warranty anyway. The C10’s four-year warranty (and eight-year battery warranty) is fine on its own, but it isn’t a patch on the 10-year service-activated warranty Toyota will give you if you have routine maintenance done at a main dealer. Toyota’s EV SUV might sound like a fax machine, but it impresses with its comfort and user-friendliness.

Renault Scenic E-Tech
Better than the C10 for: infotainment
Like most of the Chinese cars we’ve tested, the C10’s touchscreen is massive but relegates most features to either, a small scrolling bar at the bottom of the home screen, or a wall of submenus and options. This takes your brain away from the process of actually driving. Early cars may also still be without Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. So even though Leapmotor sees itself as a tech company, you’ll find better infotainment systems elsewhere. The Renault Scenic E-Tech is one of our favourite family EVs, partly due to its built-in Google software that immediately syncs with your phone, creating a refreshing and joined-up user experience.

Skoda Enyaq
Better than the C10 for: driving experience
The long and short of it is that the Skoda Enyaq is a much better car in many areas than the C10. Where you’ll probably notice most of a difference is in the driving experience. While the C10 is composed on twisty roads, the occasionally crashy ride and the poorly calibrated driver aids are tiresome on long journeys. The Enyaq is excellent everywhere, and just feels controlled and unflappable regardless of the type of road you’re on. If you don’t need such a big boot as the one in the Enyaq, there's also the slightly more compact Skoda Elroq.

Peugeot e-5008
Better than the C10 for: having seven seats
We’re not marking the C10 down for its five spacious seats, which are soft and comfortable. But, should you occasionally need more than five seats, you’ll need one of the electric 7-seater options on the market. Our favourite is the Peugeot e-5008, which combines a space-age cabin with attractive styling and plentiful practicality. The first electric 5008 comes with big batteries as standard, so every version comfortably manages more than 300 miles. Big discounts for used examples make this striking seven-seater surprisingly affordable, too.

MG S6
Better than the C10 for: range
The first in a possible planned range of models that sound like places, the MG S6 is a spacious and sleek family SUV that’s full of premium features. Its 77kWh battery promises up to 329 miles on a charge, while 150kW fast charging gets you topped up fairly quickly. Some rivals manage even more miles than the S6, but this amount will be plenty for the majority of drivers’ needs. And it’s a fair bit further than the C10’s quoted 267-mile range.

Nissan Ariya

Better than the C10 for: interior quality
You’ll be drawn to the C10 for the lengthy equipment list it offers within a plush-looking cabin. But some of the materials are a bit more focused on durability than premium poshness. Step in to the Nissan Ariya and you might feel like you’re in a high-end spa, given its tranquility and its interesting use of materials and textures. We’re a bit keen on the buttons hidden within the wood trim, while top-spec Ariyas come with thick carpet and stitching inspired by high-end Japanese craftsmanship.

Changan Deepal S07
Better than the C10 for: safety
Leapmotor is surely pleased with the C10’s glowing five-star Euro NCAP crash test score. Figures of 89% for adult occupant protection and 85% for child occupant protection are very impressive – although there are still some cars that scored higher. One was the Deepal S07, which scored 95% and 87% respectively. You might also take a Deepal deep dive for the S07’s Italian style and sharp lines – which make the C10 look a little anonymous in comparison.

Citroen e-C5 Aircross
Better than the C10 for: comfort
We’ve already mentioned that the C10 can get a bit choppy on less than perfect road surfaces – and there are plenty of those around the UK. Where some SUVs try to be sporty, the Citroen e-C5 Aircross focuses on comfort more than anything else. Its squidgy seats and well-damped suspension make for relaxing journeys, while the range-topping version manages over 400 miles to a charge.
