Before you ask, it’s not named after a weight loss jab.
It’s named after Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Well, that’s the case for export markets; in Geely’s home market, it’s named the Xingyue L, with ‘xingyue’ meaning ‘star cross’.
Whatever it’s called, the Geely Monjaro is coming to the UK very shortly. It’s being introduced in Egypt before landing on European shores in a few weeks. Maybe it should’ve been called the Mediterranean.
However, it has been on sale in China since December 2023. That might be why it looks like it’s due a facelift already.
The Monjaro is larger than Geely’s Starray and EX5 SUVs, and provides a flagship model to take on the likes of the Jaecoo 8 and BMW X3. It measures 4,770mm long, 1,895mm wide (excluding mirrors) and 1,689mm tall, with a 2,845mm wheelbase.

In terms of performance, the Monjaro looks set to inherit a similar EM-i plug-in-hybrid powertrain as the Starray. The total power output is 238hp – less than the Starray – with most of that likely to be injected by the electric motor. So it won’t be wildly powerful like the Omoda 9, and will focus on providing a more relaxed driving experience.
Four-wheel drive will be featured, with the Monjaro debuting Geely’s e-AWD system for export markets.
Three large screens take up the majority of the Monjaro’s dashboard, with the passenger getting their own screen. High-spec cars will get electrically adjustable comfort seats with heating, ventilation and massaging functions. The whole gamut of driver assistance tech will come as standard, including a 540-degree parking camera, adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring.
When it rolls out in the UK, the Monjaro should benefit from Geely’s eight-year/125,000-mile warranty.
Geely is busy increasing its presence in the UK, and is now selling the EX2 on our shores. It was China’s best-selling car in 2025, don’t you know. You can read our Geely EX2 review here.
