Hyundai has revealed official pricing for the new Ioniq 3 hatchback.
Hyundai's new electric hatchback, the Ioniq 3, is now available to order. And it might cost less than you expect.
Thanks to the ongoing electric car grant, the Hyundai Ioniq 3 already comes with a £3,750 saving. With the grant included, the starting price is just £18,495, or £21,995 for the bigger battery.
That puts the Ioniq 3 right amongst the cheapest electric cars on sale now, such as the Honda Super N, Dacia Spring, Leapmotor T03 and Renault Twingo. And all of those have limited range figures and limited practicality. In comparison, the base-spec Ioniq 3 manages 213 miles of range and has space for a small family.
From this 42kWh battery, we'd expect around 150 miles of range in the real world. That should be enough for most trips by most drivers, but might be a little short if it's going to be your only car.
Upgrading to the 61kWh battery bumps range up to a respectable 308 miles, which should be enough for the Ioniq 3 to tackle pretty much any driving you throw at it.
This is the smallest model in Hyundai's growing Ioniq lineup of electric cars. It measures just under 4.2 metres long, which puts it towards the top of the supermini segment, but Hyundai reckons the car's EV platform unlocks an amount of space that's similar to hatches from the class above.
Entry-level Advance trim includes two-zone climate control, a reversing camera, adaptive cruise control and a big infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, on top of all the now-mandated driver assistance tech. It's the only trim level to offer the smaller battery.
Premium trim starts from £23,695 after the grant is deducted. Standard equipment gets a boost with bigger wheels, digital dials, wireless phone charging and auto wipers. This trim level also allows you to precondition the battery to enable faster public charging.
The £26,195 Ultimate trim features all of this plus heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, upgraded headlights and 64-colour ambient lighting. At the top of the range is the N Line Evo trim, which includes sporty N Line styling, self-parking tech and more driver assistance kit for £2,000 more than Ultimate.
All upgrade trims are exclusively equipped with the bigger 61kWh battery pack. Oddly, however, this bigger battery actually gets a smaller motor, with 135hp and a respectable 9.5-second 0-62mph time. In comparison, the 42kWh model gets 147hp and an 8.8-second 0-62mph time.
