SUVs
Citroen C3 Aircross (2017-2024)
A good-value small SUV that gives you a bit more ride height and easier ingress. Based on the C3, it retains that car’s frugal engines – in fact, it’s one of the most economical small SUVs on the market.

New Citroen C3 Aircross (2024-present)
The new C3 Aircross is, in effect, a slightly longer version of the latest C3 (below). Somehow, despite the C3 Aircross still not taking up much road space, Citroen has managed to squeeze seven seats in (it's an option on hybrid models in certain trim levels). The hybrid engine is very economical and easy to drive, promising 57mpg and coming with an automatic gearbox – and it's considerably quicker than the standard PureTech petrol engine, too.

Citroen C5 Aircross (2017-2025)
The C5 Aircross is Citroen’s largest SUV, and it rivals the likes of the Kia Sportage, Peugeot 3008 and Ford Kuga. Again, the C5 Aircross majors on value and comfort – it’s not at all sporty, but will soothe you like few other SUVs will.

Citroen C5 Aircross (2025-present)
Still laser-focused on comfort, the new Citroen C5 Aircross is considerably bigger than before to free up extra legroom and boot space. There's a 'waterfall' infotainment system that's drastically more modern than the old car's, and a couple of hybrid engines – one that doesn't need to be plugged in and one that does. The C5 Aircross Plug-in Hybrid manages 50 miles on electric power, while the cheaper engine – a 1.2-litre mild-hybrid – still offers decent fuel economy, especially around town where the battery can chip in.

Hatchbacks
Citroen C1 (2014-2022)
Developed in tandem with the Toyota Aygo and Peugeot 108, the C1 is a small city car that’s cheap to buy and alluringly cheap to run. Simple, honest motoring, or the ideal first car.

Citroen C3 (2016-2024)
This is Citroen’s Ford Fiesta-sized car but with a far-reaching focus on comfort. Spongy seats and extra suspension help to iron out the UK’s typically terrible road surfaces. This version's friendly face and rounded styling made it a popular choice. After the discontinuation of the C1, the C3 was offered in a You trim that was considerably cheaper than the rest of the C3 lineup.

New Citroen C3 (2024-present)
Upgrading to the new Citroen C3 gets you some C3 Aircross-like SUV styling, a frugal hybrid petrol engine and a strong level of equipment for the price. Like the previous model, the new C3 puts comfort front and centre, and its modern yet simple interior is a lovely place in which to spend time.

Citroen C4
Need a bit more passenger space? Step up to the C4, a slightly jacked-up family hatchback with a trendy coupe-style roofline. It, too, offers a full electric version as well as more conventional petrol and diesel engines.

Saloons and estates
Citroen C4 X
The C4 X is a long-tail saloon version of the C4 hatchback, with a larger boot (albeit a smaller boot opening). It shares the C4’s engine lineup and interior.

Citroen C5 X (2022-2025)
A sort of suave estate thing, the C5 X is a bit of a hidden gem. It’s comfy, luxurious and quiet, making it just as good at long motorway work as something like an Audi or BMW.

MPVs
Citroen Berlingo
If you need the maximum amount of space for as little money as possible, get yourself a van – or something clearly based on a van. The Berlingo is perfect if you end up taking a lot of family clutter, or if you just want the ability to transport a big chest of drawers every so often. Electric e-Berlingo also available.

Citroen SpaceTourer
Another van-based MPV that’s ideal if you like moonlighting as an airport shuttle service. The SpaceTourer comes with up to nine seats and a very durable interior. Like the Berlingo, there’s an electric one. There's also the Citroen Holidays, a campervan version of the SpaceTourer.
Electric cars
Citroen Ami
This is not really a car at all. The Citroen Ami is a quadricycle, just like a quad bike. You’ll either think it’s nonsensical and stupid, or you’ll end up involuntarily beaming like the village idiot. It’ll do 50 miles and a top speed of 28mph, so best to keep it within city walls.
Citroen e-C3
The Citroen e-C3 is a great choice if you want an affordable electric car... that has to adhere to proper safety regulations and lets you travel at motorway speeds, unlike the Ami. Thanks to the electric car grant, the e-C3 is actually cheaper than the petrol one – and it continues to be cheaper to run if you can charge at home. Up to 202 miles is possible from a full battery.

Citroen e-C3 Aircross
The e-C3 Aircross features the same modest battery and power output as the e-C3 above, so this is a very cost-efficient family car if it suits your driving habits. Here, the maximum range is slightly lower at 188 miles between charges, but the upside is more than double the boot space of the e-C3.

Citroen e-C4
Excluding 2012's C-Zero – one of the very first mainstream electric cars – the e-C4 has been around the longest of any e-Citroen. But it still stacks up today, with a maximum range of around 260 miles and the ability to recharge to 80% in under half an hour.

Citroen e-C5 Aircross
Even the 'Comfort Range' version of the e-C5 Aircross offers over 300 miles of serene electric driving to a charge, but there's also a Long Range version. With its huge 97kWh battery at 100%, you could see up to 421 miles before having to recharge again – a truly astonishing figure that matches what you'd expect from a petrol SUV.
