How long does Citroen We Care last?

Citroen C4 X front detail

Citroen We Care lasts up to eight years or 100,000 miles – whichever comes first. The first three years are covered under the standard manufacturer warranty, with no mileage limit in the first two years, and a 60,000-mile limit in the third year.

Once the initial three-year warranty expires, you can access up to five years of service-activated coverage by having your car serviced at a Citroen-authorised repairer. Each annual service within the Citroen network grants you another 12 months of cover that lasts until your next service, with another 12 months activated upon its completion. This additional five-year period has a 100,000-mile distance limit.

All the age limits mentioned are counted from the date your car was registered. You can find this out using the DVLA's vehicle information checker.

What does Citroen We Care include?

The initial three-year Citroen warranty has fairly comprehensive coverage – essentially all non-wear-and-tear items are included. However, the five-year service-activated period that follows only applies to "engine, gearbox and/or transmission" of engine-powered models, or to "faulty mechanical, electrical or electronic parts" of EV models.

Put more simply, the service-activated portion of your Citroen's warranty only applies to the main mechanical parts that drive your car. Detailed inclusions can be found in Citroen's We Care terms and conditions.

Wear-and-tear items are not covered under the We Care warranty. Citroen gives a non-exhaustive list of items including:

  • Filters
  • Brake pads, discs and linings
  • Welds
  • Cables
  • Wheels
  • Rims
  • Tyres
  • Belts
  • Fluids

Read Citroen's We Care T&Cs for detailed exclusions, but they're broadly in line with industry standards. That means warranty claims will usually only be accepted for parts that fail due to a fault in their material, manufacturing or assembly. Any failures caused by external damage, misuse or neglect won't be covered.

Like most warranties, Citroen requires you to keep your car serviced in line with recommendations to maintain your warranty cover. This means a service every year or 12,500 miles. Citroen allows you to miss scheduled services by up to two months or 1,800 miles, but doing so repeatedly may form grounds to reject your claim.

Any modifications to the vehicle will also void your warranty as Citroen can't guarantee the quality of third-party components. Similarly, any tampering with your car's digital systems will void your warranty – especially alterations to the mileage. This exclusion does not apply to official Citroen accessories fitted by a dealership.

We Care won't apply if the car has been used as a taxi, rental car, driving school vehicle, delivery vehicle, or for services like the police, ambulance or military. In addition, any racing or competitive driving will also void your warranty, as will driving with your car overloaded.

Citroen's EV battery warranty

Citroen e-C3 charging

Citroen's EVs all use a high-voltage battery pack to store electricity to drive the car. This battery pack is covered under its own warranty, separate from the We Care package

All Citroen EVs include a high-voltage battery warranty lasting eight years or 100,000 miles – whichever comes first. This policy guarantees the battery pack will retail at least 70% of its original capacity for the duration of the coverage. If it drops below 70% while the warranty is active, Citroen will pay for any repairs needed to bring it back above 70%.

Be aware that most EV battery packs are expected to last a lot longer than eight years, with minimal capacity fade. Surveys show that the packs in today's EVs should last the whole lifetime of the car without needing replacement. You can help your battery last as long as possible by keeping your battery charge below 80% for day-to-day driving, and only using the whole 100-0% range for long-distance drives.

Is Citroen We Care transferable?

Yes. Citroen We Care automatically transfers with the car when it's sold to the new owner. As long as the warranty terms have been stuck to – the car has been serviced on time and hasn't been modified, misused or neglected – then the new owner gets the full benefits of We Care.

That means nearly new Citroen cars for sale at Motorpoint will qualify for the We Care warranty as long as they were registered after 1 June 2025. Each individual Motorpoint vehicle listing includes how much warranty cover that car has left, although this only shows the remainder of the standard three-year warranty.

The We Care warranty doesn't apply to Citroen's commercial vehicles. It also excludes the Ami mini EV.
