Buying a DS marks you out as someone who doesn’t follow the crowd.
DS cars are perfect if you want a stylish car and a plush interior without opting for the obvious choices. They’re a lot more exclusive (and, dare we say, interesting) than many Audi, BMW and Mercedes models – you won’t see a DS in every supermarket car park. Here’s how to choose the best DS model for you.
DS hatchback and saloon range
DS No.4
In its midlife facelift, the DS 4 got a pointy new front end and a new, perfume-inspired name. This is a talented and comfortable hatchback that’s an alternative to the Mercedes A-Class, and comes with a choice of hybrid and plug-in-hybrid engines. Its update in 2025 also brought in a fully electric DS 4 for the first time. PHEV versions now manage around 50 miles on electric power with an engine on hand for longer journeys; E-Tense electric versions offer up to 280 miles between charges. The DS No.4 has a bigger boot than an A-Class and a similarly posh interior.

DS 9
An exceedingly rare sight on UK roads, the DS 9 saloon is just one in a series of big, luxurious French cars that have been spectacularly ignored by British buyers. Which is a bit of a shame, because the DS 9 is an excellent long-distance cruiser with lots of equipment thrown in. DS wanted over £50,000 for its big waftmobile when it was new, but low-mileage examples can be had for under £20,000 now.

DS SUV range
DS 3
Also called the DS 3 Crossback, this is the brand’s smallest car. It uses the same underpinnings as the Peugeot 2008, which means the choice of petrol, diesel or fully electric powertrains. Capable of nearly 200 miles between charges, the electric E-Tense is particularly affordable if it suits your lifestyle. The DS 3 offers a premium interior for the size and price, although rear-seat space is also at a premium.

DS No.7
The No.7 is DS’ second attempt at creating a luxury SUV using workaday Citroen and Vauxhall parts. If you can ignore that (or buy a used one at a hefty discount), the DS No.7 impresses with its genuinely comfortable ride quality. While there is a petrol hybrid engine offered, the electric versions impress more – especially the Long Range version with its claimed maximum range of 460 miles.
DS 7
A commanding driving position, intriguing interior and spacious passenger accommodation all lean in the DS 7’s favour, as does the bold and intricate styling. Go for one of the more powerful engines, if you can, such as the 2.0-litre diesel or the economical plug-in hybrid – it doesn’t feel much like a premium product with a 130hp 1.2-litre PureTech engine under the bonnet. Previously, this was called the DS 7 Crossback.

DS No.8
The oddball DS No.8 is an electric coupe-SUV thing that looks a little like an overstyled Rolls-Royce. Fittingly, the No.8 is DS’ latest flagship model, with a calm and refined interior providing a luxurious place to spend a long journey. Both two-wheel-drive versions of the DS No.8 offer over 400 miles to a charge, or there’s strong performance in the range-topping all-wheel-drive version. All get a space-age interior full of premium materials and fancy trimmings. Even so, you might never see one – DS hasn't yet been swamped with orders...
