2026 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV: price, specs & release date

Remember Mitsubishi? It’s been out of the UK market for five years.

Maybe you didn’t notice – the last lot of Mitsubishis in the UK weren’t exactly outstanding. But, in 2026, the Japanese brand is returning with two of its household names.

Spearheading its relaunch is the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, which was one of the very first plug-in hybrid cars available in the UK and is still the biggest-selling PHEV to date here.

The engine is a 2.4-litre non-turbo petrol, mated to a pair of electric motors and a battery pack. With the motors being on each axle, the Outlander brings four-wheel drive as standard – and a host of driving modes to maximise grip in slippery conditions.

The quoted maximum range is said to be over 500 miles, with around 50 miles of that being fully electric. That doesn’t trouble the cars on our list of the longest-range PHEVs, but will be enough for most daily journeys to be completed on EV power.

Small increases to the dimensions will make the new Outlander more practical. For the first time, a seven-seat version will be available.

The screens and switchgear inside are likely to be borrowed from Nissan, and the infotainment system will feature Google’s mapping and apps built in.

While the previous Outlander PHEV was a pioneer, this new one has to compete against a wide range of rivals – such as the Volkswagen Tiguan, Toyota RAV4, MG HS, Nissan X-Trail and Leapmotor C10.

2026 Mitsubishi L200

A new Mitsubishi L200 pickup is also going to be available when the dealer network reopens. Using an overhauled version of the same 2.4-litre diesel engine as the previous L200, the L200 will also offer selectable four-wheel drive with proper diffs and low gears, plus seven terrain modes.

We would expect a maximum towing capacity of 3,500kg, making the L200 ideal if you need a truck for towing horse trailers or full-size caravans.

The L200 will go up against the likes of the Ford Ranger, Volkswagen Amarok and Isuzu D-Max, and aims to appeal to people who need a tough work vehicle during the week and a luxurious family SUV on the weekend.
