Why buy a used Audi A3?

There's a very good reason to buy a used Audi A3 – it's one of the smartest-looking family hatchbacks on the market, yet also practical, economical and relaxing to drive. Our range of used Audi A3 models includes the standard five-door hatchback, as well as the more business-like A3 saloon. You can have your used Audi A3 with petrol, diesel or plug-in-hybrid petrol engines, meaning there's guaranteed to be an A3 to suit your driving habits.

Popular Audi A3 trims for sale at Motorpoint

Shop for a used Audi A3 at Motorpoint and you'll find a mix of the three most popular trim levels: Technik, Sport and S Line. The A3 Technik is the most affordable version, but it still comes with alloy wheels, LED headlights, a digital dashboard and a 10.1-inch infotainment screen complete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Step up to a mid-spec A3 Sport model and you'll get bigger alloy wheels, two-zone climate control and some leather upholstery. Top-spec A3 S Line models get even bigger alloys, LED tail lights, a sportier-looking set of bumpers, sweeping indicators and tinted rear windows.

If you're after a used Audi A3 with some serious firepower, consider the 300hp Audi S3, or the bonkers 400hp RS3.

Audi A3 interior and technology

Cabin quality is a strong point for Audi, and the A3 is no exception. On-board tech is front and centre, with the crisp 'Virtual Cockpit' screen in the driver's binnacle neatly framed by angular air vents.

In the middle, the A3's MMI infotainment system has all the functions you'd expect, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It's one of our favourite screen setups, with clear, high-contrast graphics, a simple menu structure, and obvious shortcut icons.

Audi A3 practicality and boot space

The A3 is one of the most practical hatches on sale. That's partially because its 4.35-metre length makes it one of the largest cars in this class. Nevertheless, parking is easy and all versions from 2020 onwards including rear parking sensors.

Boot space in the A3 stands at 380 litres – or 280 for plug-in-hybrid versions. That's a strong figure for this class, and happily accommodate a flat-pack-furniture shopping spree.

Audi A3 safety rating and features

Safety experts at Euro NCAP have tested the A3 twice in recent years. First with the launch of the most-recent model in 2020, then again after the car was facelifted in 2025. Both times, the A3 earned the full five-star rating, despite the 2025 test being harsher than the 2020 version.

Key active safety systems are included in all A3s from 2020 onwards. That includes automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist.

Owning a used Audi A3

A used Audi A3 is a great choice if you don't want the high-riding feel of an SUV, and prefer the slightly sharper driving experience of a hatchback. That said, the A3 still has enough rear-seat space and boot space for small families, and it's a brilliant all-rounder. Reliability should be strong, and it comes with a range of engines that are reasonably fuel efficient, so long as you steer clear of the fire-breathing RS3.
