Audi A3 hatchback FAQs

Yes, the regular Audi A3 Sportback is indeed a hatchback. This means the rear window lifts up when you open the boot, making it easier to get luggage in and out than in the A3 saloon.

It depends on your needs, but the A3 is certainly one of the best premium hatchbacks you can buy. Its interior looks a bit more upmarket than the one in the BMW 1 Series, and the choice of engines is more varied than in the Mercedes A-Class. It has similar boot space to both of them and slightly roomier back-seat accommodation too.

The Audi A3 came last out of 37 cars in a What Car? family hatchback owner survey, and 70th out of 75 in a Driver Power survey. Most of the faults encountered related to the infotainment system, while engines are gearboxes don't seem to suffer from many issues.
