Fuel Type

Ever since it launched the legendary 2CV, Citroën has been famous for producing stylish, compact and affordable cars that know how to have fun. The C1 follows in that proud French tradition.

Despite being just 3.5 metres long, there’s space inside for four adults to ride in comfort, a generous 196-litre boot and a range of technology and personalisation options to make it your own. The petit Citroën is also an energetic little thing to drive, as demonstrated by the C1 race series! So read on to discover all our Citroën C1 buying tips below.

Citroen C1 Engine Options

Earlier examples of the second-generation C1 are available with either a 1.0-litre or 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, but examples produced from 2018 onwards use a new version of the 1.0-litre engine known as the VTi. It increases power a little, but more useful is the significant boost in torque (the stuff that pulls you up hills and makes overtakes feel effortless), and the reduction in CO2 emissions to just 88g/km.

Front-wheel drive and a manual gearbox is standard, with the ETG automatic gearbox optionally available.

Bodystyles

The Citroën C1 is available with both a three- and five-door hatchback body. An Airscape convertible model is also available – much like the Fiat 500 convertible, the Airscape features a fabric roof that extends over the length of the roof, but leaves side windows and roof rails in place. Electrically operated, it’s easy to open and close at speeds of up to 70mph.

Trim Levels

The most recent C1s are available in three trim levels: Urban Ride, Shine and Shine Airscape.

  • Urban Ride highlights include air-conditioning, rear privacy glass, 15-inch wheels and LED daytime running lights.
  • Upgrade to Shine specification and you get a reversing camera, leather steering wheel, electric heated door mirrors and 15-inch alloys.
  • Shine Airscape adds the full-length convertible fabric roof.

Earlier examples were available as Touch, Feel and Flair models, with these trim levels replaced by Live, Sense, Shine and JCC+. You might also be lucky to find limited-edition models including Lagoon, Sunrise, Elle and Origins.

It is quite a lot to get your head round, but remember each Motorpoint advert lists the spec highlights!

Technology

All C1s save for the earlier entry-level Touch are equipped with the 7.0-inch Touch Drive screen featuring DAB radio and Mirrorscreen technology, allowing you to pair your smartphone with the C1’s infotainment.

Optional safety technology includes autonomous emergency braking, which comes bundled with lane-departure warning and traffic-sign recognition.
