The best used SUVs on sale in 2026

SUVs are now the default car choice for many families.

You get lots of passenger and cargo space – often with a smaller footprint than many saloon and estate models. Plus, SUVs usually ride higher, which means less bending over for parents with children, or easier access for passengers with limited mobility.

Motorpoint has an enormous range of nearly new and used SUVs, plus thousands of other great-value used cars for sale.

Ford Kuga

Ford Kuga in green
  • Great ride and handling balance
  • Smooth hybrid engines
  • Lots of passenger space

The current Ford Kuga went on sale in 2019 with a facelift in 2024, and you'll find a wide selection on the used market. Plenty of availability means competitive prices, but the Kuga earns its place on merit. It's one of the larger five-seat SUVs, which means excellent passenger room and decent cargo space. The dashboard is a little plain but you're unlikely to care because this is one of the very best SUVs to drive, with accurate, well-weighted controls and an eager front end that loves to dive into corners. There's suspension wizardry at work here, too, because the Kuga is compliant over bumps while also showing barely any body roll through corners.

Peugeot 5008

Peugeot 5008 in light blue
  • Contemporary design
  • Seven-seat interior
  • Long-range electric version

The 5008 is the biggest SUV in Peugeot's lineup, with seven seats and a solid, upright look. This most recent 5008 has only been on sale since 2025 but, already, nearly new mild-hybrid models are available with £15,000 or more off their list price. That saving is even larger for fully electric e-5008 models, which see steeper first-year depreciation. Just like the dramatic exterior styling, the interior has a contemporary, chic ambiance with a mix of textiles and glossy surfaces across the parts you look and touch. On the road, the 5008 feels lighter than its size suggests, partly due to the easy handling and partly thanks to its small, flickable steering wheel.

Renault Austral

Renault Austral in grey
  • Smooth, zippy hybrid engine
  • Great ride quality
  • Attractive cabin design

Yes, the Renault Austral may be yet another hybrid family SUV, but it's arguably the most complete product the French brand has released in years. The cabin is comfortable, plush and neatly designed. So, too, is the driving experience with easy, predictable handling and a luxuriously soft edge to its suspension. All versions come with self-charging-hybrid tech that's allegedly borrowed from the company's Alpine F1 team. You probably won't be hassling racers around Silverstone, but it's superb in the real world with muscular electrical assistance and a smooth swap over between electric and petrol power.

Volkswagen T-Roc

Volkswagen T-Roc in green
  • Robust build quality
  • Easy to drive
  • Good balance of size and practicality

For many UK drivers, the Volkswagen T-Roc will be the 'Goldilocks' model in the lineup. It's just large enough to use as a family car, but without the bulk or height of the larger Tiguan. That makes the T-Roc easier to drive in the city and less intimidating when faced with a tight parking space. Good quality used examples are available for less than £15,000, while nearly new models hover somewhere above £28,000 – around £12,000 off their list price. The T-Roc feels like Volkswagen at its best, with a quiet, fuss-free driving experience, straightforward usability and solid build quality.

Citroen C5 Aircross

Citroen C5 Aircross
  • Impressively comfortable
  • Practical for its size
  • Comparatively affordable

The Citroen C5 Aircross is the largest SUV the French brand sells and represents brilliant value for money considering how spacious it is. Front-seat occupants get a commanding view out, but the car's showpiece is the three individual rear seats, making the C5 Aircross a fantastic option if you need to fit two Isofix seats plus an older child on the rear row. The large boot makes carrying cargo easy and, despite its affordable price, you get quirky styling touches inside and out to help the C5 Aircross stand out on the school run. Also consider the similarly affordable Vauxhall Grandland, which shares parts and engines with the Citroen.

MG HS

MG HS in white

The previous MG HS was spacious and well equipped but couldn't totally hide its cheap car origins. This latest HS, however, feels at least as premium as its main rivals and, in some cases, actually outstrips them with its comfy faux leather-trimmed cabin and all-encompassing standard kit. Like other Chinese-made SUVs we've tested, the HS prioritises rear-passenger space over boot space. Of course, there's still plenty of cargo capacity but shifting the rear seats back means back seat passengers get limo-like room to stretch out. There's a choice of turbo petrol, self-charging hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines with the latter two offering strong economy.

Cupra Formentor

Cupra Formentor in grey (facelift)
  • Impressively sporty handling
  • Strong engine range
  • Practical despite the sporty bodystyle

Most SUVs don't really deliver on the 'sports' part of their billing. The Cupra Formentor gets closer than most, however, thanks to a surprisingly aggressive setup that could easily fool you into thinking you're driving a smaller, sportier car. Pick one of the strong turbo petrol or plug-in hybrid engines and you'll get grippy, effective performance that makes the most of the car's capable handling. What's more, the Formentor doesn't demand many compromises with decent rear-seat space, a useful boot and lots of on-board tech to keep you entertained when you're not using all its performance.

Toyota RAV4

Toyota RAV4 in white
  • Excellent reliability and long warranty
  • Practical, boxy cabin
  • Easy to drive and use

The Toyota RAV4 has been on sale for more than 30 years. You don't earn that kind of longevity without having some real substance, which is why so many RAV4 owners hold on to their cars for such a long time. For starters, it's big and spacious for all your family SUV needs, and features the same easy-to-understand interface we've found on all recent Toyota models – minus its slightly old-school infotainment system. The self-charging hybrid setup is responsive, powerful and efficient, without any recharging faff. More important for many buyers, however, is Toyota's transferable 10-year service-activated warranty.

Skoda Karoq

Skoda Karoq in red
  • Great practicality in a fairly compact footprint
  • Calm, easygoing driving experience
  • Smooth engines and auto gearboxes

The Skoda Karoq is one of our all-time favourite SUVs for the way it effortlessly appeals to the head. Things start off strong with an enormous cabin that boasts rear seat space that rivals luxury cars priced several times higher than the Karoq. Then there's the massive boot – we're yet to meet a dog large enough that it wouldn't fit back there, and you can be confident that no airport run or trip to the tip will outfox the spacious Skoda. Capping this all off is the Karoq's comfortable and easygoing driving experience that makes long journeys melt away.

BMW X1

BMW X1 in white
  • Modern, tech-laden dashboard
  • Practical enough for family use
  • Easy and satisfying to drive

The latest BMW X1 arrived at the end of 2022, so is starting to show up in greater numbers on the used market. That means you're getting one of BMW's most up-to-date cars, with the latest infotainment system and cabin design, without the price premium you'd pay for a brand-new model. As you'd hope from a car bearing the blue-and-white badge, the X1 feels unflappably stable in day-to-day driving with a surprisingly sporty edge if you push the car harder. Despite being the smallest BMW SUV, the X1 has ample room for a family of four, with lots of rear passenger space and a boot that'll swallow pushchairs without a fight.
