Used Car Frequently Asked Questions

Is the price in keeping with used car market prices?
At Motorpoint, we check vehicle prices every day. We’re so confident that we’re offering the best price, that if you find a like-for-like car for less than we’re offering, we’ll refund double the difference to you.

Is the car in an acceptable condition?
When buying a second-hand car, you can expect some wear and tear.  All of our cars are checked by experts to make sure that they meet our Motorpoint Quality Standard. Our team checks the interior, exterior, wheels, and tyres of your car, as well as additional mechanical checks. Find out more about our Quality Standard

Is anything missing?
Before you drive away, you should make sure your car is kitted out appropriately. Check the floor of the boot to ensure the spare wheel is there. Some may come with a second set of keys and you should be able to find the handbook in the glovebox. Tyres, legally, should have a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm. It’s also worth checking the fluid levels under the bonnet.

Are the electrics in working order?
Check any electrical features, such as automatic windows, mirrors, wiper blades, the air-con and radio. Do the warning lights work as expected when starting up the vehicle?

Generally, the average mileage for cars each year is 12,000 miles. For example, if the used car is 2 years old, you should expect it to have travelled around 24,000 miles.

Purchasing a 2-3-year-old car will already offer you massive savings compared to a new car and the vehicle shouldn’t have too high a mileage. Buying a 5-year-old car will minimise depreciation and mean even better savings, but you could miss out on features.

When buying a used car from Motorpoint, you’ll need your order number and stock number, which can be found on your sales order. As with buying a car, you’ll need to bring your driving licence or passport. If you’re part-exchanging your car, you’ll also need your V5 Log Book, as well as your MOT history, service history and any spare keys.

Motorpoint offers free test drives on all vehicles on display. Just ask a member of the team to arrange one for you. All we will need is a photo card driving licence and a second proof of identity such as a debit/credit card or passport.

At Motorpoint, all of our cars come with a minimum of 3 months warranty. You also have the option to purchase an extended warranty.
