New Audi A2 e-tron: price, specs & release date

This is our first look at the new 2026 Audi A2 e-tron.

As you can see, Audi has teased the silhouette of the new A2 e-tron — and perhaps the most surprising thing is how similar it is to the outline of the original A2.

The new A2 e-tron will be Audi’s smallest electric car, sitting beneath the likes of the Audi Q4, Q6 and A6 e-tron.

It’ll be based on the same underpinnings as the Volkswagen ID. Polo and Cupra Raval, and could also count the Mini Cooper E and BYD Dolphin as rivals. There are a growing number of small electric SUVs to consider, too, such as the Ford Puma Gen-E and Kia EV2.

The ID. Polo is a whisker over four metres long — roughly the size of a petrol Polo or Ford Fiesta — and we’d expect the A2 e-tron to be similarly proportioned. With a bespoke electric platform underneath, the A2 e-tron should have a long wheelbase (the distance between front and rear wheels) giving a generous amount of passenger space considering its size.

Given it’ll use underpinnings from the wider VW Group, we expect that the A2 e-tron will come with up to 226hp of power, and a choice of 38kWh or 56kWh batteries. To be competitive with its main rivals, these batteries will need to offer around 200 and 270 miles of range respectively.

The A2 e-tron has a sleek-looking shape, which should be good for efficiency.

Audi has deliberately referenced the efficiency of the original A2, suggesting that the new model will have a similar focus on slipping through the air with as little resistance as possible. Hopefully, Audi will make the car as light as possible, too.

This has multiple benefits, not just squeezing out more range. Acceleration can be quicker, the ride can be softer and running costs — both direct and indirect — are cheaper.

The original Audi A2, which used aluminium extensively to keep weight down, has become a cult classic and an example of a car being ahead of its time.

Audi will reveal the new A2 e-tron in autumn 2026, and the model is likely to go on sale in early 2027.
