The Chery Tiggo 4 happens to be the brand’s fourth UK model, but it’s also quite a bit smaller than the Tiggo 7, 8 and 9.
Chery is lining the Tiggo 4 up against the likes of the Nissan Juke, Hyundai Kona and Toyota Yaris Cross. To catch your attention in this oversaturated part of the market, the Tiggo 4 starts from just £19,995.
Which means you’re looking at the UK’s cheapest SUV.
So you might expect the Tiggo 4 to be a basic thing with no tech, an old engine and a shudderingly poor safety record. But that doesn’t seem to be the case.

The Tiggo 4 looks smart with its piercing headlights, vertical LED running lights and a big grille. The bodywork is clean and crisp, and the rear end features a full-width LED light bar with intricate detailing.
You get a pair of big 10.25-inch screens on top of the dashboard, plus a row of piano keys and a glossy touch panel for the climate controls. The materials look to be decent quality from the picture, although we won’t be able to say for sure until we drive it.
The Tiggo 4 is the first ‘full’ hybrid model that Chery has introduced to our shores. It doesn’t need plugging in, and instead there’s a large 1.83kWh battery which is backed up by a 1.5-litre petrol engine. Totals stand at 204hp and a chunky 310Nm of torque, which suggests that the Tiggo 4 will be no slouch.

In Australia, where the Tiggo 4 is already on sale, buyers get two trim levels to pick from. The cheaper one gets 17-inch alloy wheels, wireless Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto and various driver assist systems, while the upgraded version adds a sunroof, heated seats, a 360-degree parking camera and a wireless phone charger.
Full UK prices and specs will be released in the coming weeks.
When it was tested by Euro NCAP in 2025, it scored four stars out of five, with an 85% rating for child occupant protection.
