Ford three-year warranty – everything you need to know

Ford’s warranty lasts for three years and is included on all of the brand’s cars, from the perky Puma to the mighty Mustang.

The warranty cover provided on a new Ford is competitive with the likes of Nissan, Volkswagen, Skoda and Vauxhall. Three years is largely the industry standard, although our list of cars with long warranties shows that a growing number of manufacturers are giving customers longer periods of cover.

How long is the Ford manufacturer warranty?

Ford’s car range is covered by a three-year/60,000-mile warranty. The warranty period applies to whichever comes first: the time period or the mileage.

As with other manufacturers, your Ford warranty started on the day the car was registered. You can find the date of registration on your V5C document or on your warranty documentation.

Ford van warranty

Ford covers its commercial vehicles for three years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Again, this starts on the date of the vehicle’s registration.

The Ford commercial vehicle warranty applies to all Transit and Tourneo models, plus the Ranger and Ranger Raptor pickup trucks. It also applies to Ford motorhomes, such as the Transit Nugget, and Transit minibuses.

What does Ford’s three-year warranty cover?

Ford Ranger Raptor engine

Ford’s warranty covers defects in manufacturing or the materials of the vehicle. If a warranty claim is approved, Ford will cover the cost of any repairs or replacement parts.

Manufacturing defects for the paintwork are also covered for three years.

If you need to make a warranty claim while in Europe, you’re still covered under the warranty and a local, authorised Ford dealer can repair or replace parts.

This is a non-exhaustive list of what’s covered under Ford’s warranty:

  • Engine (excluding spark plugs and limited coverage items below)
  • Fuel system (excluding fluids and filters)
  • Cooling system (excluding fluids)
  • Gearbox (excluding fluids)
  • Suspension (excluding shock absorbers)
  • Braking system (excluding consumables/wear and tear items)
  • Electrical parts
  • Safety related parts including seat belts and airbags
  • Xenon headlights and instrument lighting

You’ll find the full terms and conditions in your car’s Service Portfolio.

  • Unapproved parts or repairs
  • Claims where servicing, maintenance or inspection schedules were missed
  • Consumable fluids (including oil, coolant, brake fluid and screenwash) if not part of a warranty repair
  • Modifications to the vehicle, any aftermarket off-road parts, accessories from a third party, or any cases of ‘tampering’ with vehicle systems
  • Faults from the wrong grade of fuel being used

  • Oil and fluids
  • Oil, fuel and pollen filters
  • 12V batteries
  • Spark plugs
  • Accessory drive belts

Ford parts warranty

Milltek Ford Ranger Raptor exhaust

Most replacement Ford parts come with a 12-month warranty with no mileage limit. The exceptions to this are:

  • Scheduled maintenance items – 12 months or until the next scheduled replacement, whichever is sooner
  • Alarms, shock absorbers, clutch assemblies and basic exhausts – 24 months, no mileage limit
  • Batteries, and exhausts including catalytic converters and DPFs – 36 months, no mileage limit
  • Sheet metal or body panels – six years, no mileage limit

Any parts or accessories fitted before the vehicle is delivered are covered by the main car warranty, while parts fitted after vehicle delivery have the 12-month unlimited mileage warranty.

Is Ford’s warranty transferable?

Yes, Ford’s warranty is transferable to subsequent owners provided the car is under three years old and with under 60,000 miles on the clock. The vehicle must have been maintained in line with Ford’s stipulations for the warranty to remain valid. But if all of those criteria are met, you’ll be able to claim for warranty work even if you’re not the car’s first owner.

How long is Ford’s hybrid and EV battery warranty?

Ford covers the high-voltage lithium-ion battery packs in its plug-in-hybrid and electric vehicles for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. The warranty covers you against excessive battery degradation – gradual losses are considered as wear and tear.

For all of Ford’s electric cars and Ford's electric vans, the battery is warranted to 70% of its original capacity. The only exception is the E-Transit Chassis Cab, which is warranted to 65% of its original capacity.

What is Ford’s anti-perforation (rust) warranty?

Ford’s anti-corrosion warranty covers any perforation (rust) that penetrates from the inside to the outside of the bodywork. Depending on the model in question, the length of cover is between eight and 12 years from the date of registration.

To keep the anti-perforation warranty intact, you need to regularly inspect the exterior and underside of the car in line with the intervals in your Ford’s Service Portfolio. As with the main warranty, the anti-perforation warranty is transferable to the next owner(s).

This section of the warranty doesn’t cover surface rust that begins on the outside of the bodywork, for example from stone chips or accident damage. Additionally, it does not cover wheels, bumpers, hinges, mouldings or modifications.

Can you extend a Ford warranty?

Yes, Ford offers an extended warranty if you're planning to keep your car for a long time.

If your vehicle is new or comes with the balance of Ford’s three-year warranty, you can extend the warranty for an additional one or two years for extra cost.

Alternatively, you could take out a Motorpoint extended warranty when you buy a used Ford – we offer up to 51 months of additional warranty cover so you can rest easy for the next four years.

If you’re buying a Ford commercial vehicle, you can only opt for a Ford extended warranty in the first 30 days after registration or in the first 3,000 miles.
