China is leading the electric car industry.
It builds the most EVs, makes the most batteries and has the most cutting-edge tech. And, with lots of Chinese brands now launching in the UK, that means more choice than ever for drivers.
So we've brought together our 10 favourite Chinese EVs on sale. Many of these models and brands can be found as great-value nearly new and used cars for sale at Motorpoint.

Jaecoo E5

- Familiar, upright styling
- Range: up to 248 miles
- Charging: 30-80% in 27 minutes
Jaecoo has become an overnight sales phenomenon in the UK. Who'd have thought mimicking Range Rover Evoque looks at half the price would be so successful? The E5 is the battery-powered version of the standard 5 SUV, and swaps out that car's slightly asthmatic turbo petrol engine for a smooth, near-silent electric motor. As a result, acceleration is a calmer affair and you don't have to wait for the automatic gearbox to catch up with your requests. Its range and charging times are fairly average, but should still be enough for most drivers.

BYD Sealion 7

- Luxurious and comfortable
- Range: up to 312 miles
- Charging: 10-80% in 24 minutes
China's advantage in this market is the value-for-money its cars offer thanks to the country's massive economies of scale. However, that doesn't mean every Chinese EV is a budget-focused model. The BYD Sealion 7 is what happens when the nation's biggest carmaker builds a luxury electric SUV. It's a sumptuous vehicle with a spacious, plush cabin and effortless performance from its mighty electric motors. The priciest, fastest model also has the best battery and charging tech, with more than 300 miles of range and a sub-half-hour 10-80% time.

MG4

- Sophisticated ride and handling
- Range: up to 338 miles
- Charging: 10-80% in 25 minutes
The MG4 was among the first cars from this Chinese-owned British brand that really proved it could go toe-to-toe with western carmakers. It's a ground-up EV design with no concessions made to fitting an engine, which means you get lots of cabin space considering its compact footprint. On-board tech and comfort is competitive, as is the range and charging time. However, most impressive about the MG4 is the way it rides and handles, with excellent body control and an agile front end, plus enough suspension compliance to soak up scruffy UK roads.

Changan Deepal S05

- Well-judged suspension quality
- Range: up to 303 miles
- Charging: 30-80% in 15 minutes
Changan is one of the newer Chinese manufacturers to arrive in the UK, so its Deepal range of EVs hasn't had as much time to become established. Nevertheless, with products like the Deepal S05, it might not take long to find a footing. This battery-powered SUV is only a few grand cheaper than the larger S07, so it might not be immediately obvious why you shouldn't stretch to the bigger car. The reason, however, is that the S05 is a much more refined product with better infotainment tech and suspension that actually works on UK roads.

Aion V

- Posh, spacious cabin
- Range: up to 317 miles
- Charging: 10-80% in 24 minutes
Aion is yet another fresh face on the UK scene, despite enjoying plenty of sales success in its own market. The succinctly named V is a family SUV similar to many other battery-powered rivals. However, the car's electric layout and home-market preferences mean Aion has stretched out the cabin to the extent that rear-seat passengers have limo-like levels of legroom. It's not just space either, because the V has a long equipment list, decent EV performance and a very well judged ride that flows gracefully over bumps. Oh, and eight years' worth of breakdown cover, servicing and MOTs.

Geely EX5

- Lots of practicality for the price
- Range: up to 267 miles
- Charging: 30-80% in 20 minutes
Geely is one of China's biggest automakers and already has a presence in the UK through brands like Volvo and Polestar. It's recently launched its own lineup to the UK, starting with the EX5 electric SUV. On the surface, it might seem a little unremarkable – the range and charging times are decidedly average, and the styling is a little anonymous. However, once you see the ultra-low starting price, along with the neatly designed and super-spacious cabin, it makes a lot more sense.

Polestar 3

- Luxurious and sporty
- Range: up to 402 miles
- Charging: 10-80% in 22 minutes
As mentioned, Polestar is a spin-off from the Volvo brand and is owned by Geely. While the brand has a slightly sportier image than its Volvo counterpart, most of the same virtues apply across both lineups. Polestars are elegantly designed with sophisticated cabins, and get the latest and greatest battery and motor tech. The 3 is a large, dramatic two-row SUV with huge acceleration and a long driving range. The price is steep, but it's noticeably less than you'd pay for a premium German alternative with similar specs.

XPeng G6

- Excellent charging speeds
- Range: up to 326 miles
- Charging: 10-80% in 12 minutes
Compared the Chinese auto giants on this list, XPeng is a relatively new startup. However, it's clear from the price, styling and positioning of its G6 SUV that it has its sights firmly trained on the Tesla Model Y. Like its American competitor, the G6 has a slightly blobby body that reveals a huge amount of passenger and cargo space. There's no extended-range battery option yet, but the G6 boasts a remarkable charge rate of up to 451kW giving 10-80% recharge times as quick as 12 minutes – though, chargers that powerful aren't really available in the UK yet.

Leapmotor B10

- Low price and lots of kit
- Range: up to 270 miles
- Charging: 30-80% in 20 minutes
Leapmotor is a Chinese brand sold in the UK through the Stellantis dealer network. We were left a little lukewarm on the brand's larger C10 SUV, but the slightly smaller B10 is a marked improvement. Leapmotor claims it's retuned the car's setup for European roads at its Italian testing ground and, from our perspective, it's mostly pulled it off. The B10 flows with the road and doesn't jitter and jiggle anywhere near as much as the larger car. Standard equipment is excellent too since there's only one trim level that includes virtually all main mod cons.

MG Cyberster

- GT speed and performance
- Range: up to 316 miles
- Charging: 10-80% in 38 minutes
The MG Cyberster is essentially in a class of its own. This is a sumptuous, luxurious two-seater convertible EV with grand-touring aspirations. It's fast – very fast, in fact, with nearly 500hp – but more important is the fact it's been set up to feel controlled but comfortable. That means you can eat up the miles in this glamorous drop-top without breaking a sweat. Though, you'll have to budget for slightly longer stops thanks to its middling charge speeds. Nevertheless, there are virtually no cars that get close to this kind of power and luxury for the price.
