What Ford Ka+ trim levels are there?

Nowadays Ford doesn’t offer a stripped out base model, and the Ka+ Studio trim still comes with key essentials. It gets electric front windows, front and rear fog lights, a speed limiter and an alarm.

Zetec is the mid-range trim, adding air conditioning, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls and 15-inch alloy wheels. Ford’s MyKey system, which lets you set limits for the volume and speed, is also included – worth noting if you’re going to be sharing the car with a new driver. We’d recommend going for Zetec trim as it gets a proper infotainment system, rather than the Studio’s phone holder.

Top-of-the-range Active spec was added in 2018, and brings a sprinkling of 4x4 looks with wheelarch cladding, rough road suspension that’s slightly raised compared to the other models, roof rails and exclusive wheels.

Ford Ka+ interior and technology

With the Ka+ being a cheap car, it’s no surprise that you’ll find a lot of hard-wearing plastics inside the cabin. But, on the whole, it’s a lot like the last-shape Fiesta, with the dashboard looking and feeling similar.

When the car was facelifted in 2018, the Ka+ gained a 6.5-inch touchscreen that’s like the system in the latest Fiesta and Focus. We’d recommend looking for a car with this system, as it feels much more modern than the old version and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity – meaning you can use your phone’s apps for navigation and media playback. Entry-level Studio has a basic radio display and a ‘device dock’, but it does at least get Bluetooth and digital radio.

Ford Ka+ boot space and dimensions

The Ka+ measures just 3.9 metres long, so it’s one of the shortest cars on the road. That makes it super easy to park in tight city streets. However, the fact that the Ka+ only comes with five doors makes rear-seat access easier than in something like a Fiat 500, and its 270-litre boot is right at the top of the city car class. It’s only about 10% less than the space you get in a Fiesta.

Ford Ka+ engine range explained

Ford Ka+ 1.2 petrol

Occasionally you’ll find a Ka+ with a 1.5-litre diesel engine, but the vast majority feature a 1.2-litre petrol engine. With either 70hp or 85hp, performance is best described as sedate – the 85hp manages 0-62mph in around 13.5 seconds and the entry-level engine takes around 15 seconds. Both will manage almost 50mpg, which is good if not great for a small car.
