Why buy a used Citroen C4 X
The Citroen C4 X is a slightly unconventional combination of SUV and saloon, with a tall ride height and a familiar three-box silhouette. It neatly encapsulates the Citroen ethos – a quirky car that focuses on passenger comfort, with design that treads a fine line between attractiveness and affordability.

Owning a Citroen C4 X
The C4 X is an easy car to live with. Citroen's bestowed it with a refreshingly soft ride, so it rolls with the bumps and glides down the motorway. It's not remotely interested in sporty handling, but who cares when its mostly petrol and electric powertrains focus on refinement and ease of use, rather than performance. Passenger and cargo space is decent, though some rivals offer simlar practicality with a smaller footprint.

Citroen C4 X FAQs
The Citroen C4 X measures in at 4.6 metres long. That's actually a little longer than traditional SUVs like the Kia Sportage and Nissan Qashqai, though the Citroen is shorter in height.
Its 510-litre boot is noticeably bigger on paper than the C4 hatchback, but the saloon-style bootlid makes access a touch tricker.
The Citroen C4 X has a respectable 510-litre boot. That should be just enough for a family's holiday luggage, or a typical trip to a flatpack furniture shop.
Unlike the C4 hatchback, the C4 X has a saloon-style bootlid with a fixed rear windscreen. As a result, access to the boot is a fraction less easy than the hatch, despite the overall volume being bigger.
The overwhelming majority of C4 X cars will use either a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine or a fully electric setup. Both are fairly well suited to the C4 X's character, especially if you choose a petrol paired with an automatic gearbox.
Earlier C4 X models were also available with an optional diesel engine, which is a good choice for high-mileage drivers.
Despite its raised ride height and the casual off-road implications the industry ascribes to the letter 'X', the Citroen C4 X is exclusively front-wheel drive. In practice, this is a better choice for most drivers as it improves efficiency and keeps costs down.
If you'll be driving your C4 X in tricky conditions, a set of winter tyres or all-season tyres should be enough to keep you going.
The battery-powered Citroen e-C4 X will cover up to 222 miles with the smaller 50kWh pack. Upgrade to the 54kWh version and this figure jumps to 260 miles.
