SKODA OCTAVIA Car Review
Fantastic value for money
Taxi drivers swear by the Skoda Octavia and that’s because they are mega reliable, mega practical and they seldom ever breakdown.
The Skoda Octavia has got a loyal army of buyers as well as countless taxi firms, because it is one of the best value for money cars on the road. It is the model that has done the most to transform Skoda into one of the biggest motoring success stories of the last decade.
The latest model has a timeless smart design, Skoda’s have never been motoring fashion statement, but it looks solid and dependable, which is exactly what it is. It is also huge on the inside for a compact sized 4.6 metre long family car with excellent leg and headroom for five adults, and a massive boot - another reason taxi drivers love them. And the cabin is typically simple and straightforward Skoda, nothing flashy but everything you would want and well laid out. Plus, it’s well screwed together.
It also comes with the further bonus of an impressive line-up of high tech petrol and diesel engines that it shares with VW and Audi models. Which engine you choose really depends on your needs, my favourite is the smooth 1.2 litre Tsi petrol, that returns between 50 and 55 mpg and has a reasonable C02 emissions.
There is also more powerful 1.4 and 2.0 litre petrol versions but the fuel economy drops to between 40 and 50 mpg, but if mpg is vital go for either the 1.6 or 2.0 diesel and you’ll get between 55 and 70 mpg. What you are guaranteed with the Skoda Octavia is a vehicle you can rely on and big value.
* Ultra reliable/ top value * Bags of room * Distinctive design * Good economical engines *
