Skaters take to the ice at Motorpoint to raise thousands for West Yorkshire Hospice

20 January 2020 Press Release

Castleford ice skaters have helped Motorpoint to raise over £2,600 for The Prince of Wales Hospice

“This is the third year that we have teamed up with The Prince of Wales Hospice to do this event and it gets better every time”

The UK’s leading independent car retailer, which is based on Whistler Drive in Castleford, teamed up with The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract in the run up to Christmas to build a special charity ice skating rink at its five acre branch near J32 Outlet Centre and Xscape.

And the public couldn’t wait to get their skates on and come to Motorpoint with over700 people from across the Five Towns area taking to the ice as well as visiting various stalls and being entertained over both days by live music from local bands. Superleague fans were also treated to a special Selection Box Treasure Hunt with the Castleford Tigers players plus club mascot JT. A total of £2,631 was raised through donations from members of the public – enough to pay for running an in care bed at the Hospice for almost a week.

Chris Goodison, General Manager of Motorpoint Castleford, said: “This is the third year that we have teamed up with The Prince of Wales Hospice to do this event and it gets better every time. It was wonderful to see so many people coming to the Motorpoint Castleford branch over the weekend to enjoy themselves and together helping us to raise over £2,600 for the charity. We really can’t thank people enough.”

Motorpoint is a long-standing supporter of The Prince of Wales Hospice. Founded in 1989, it has provided palliative care and support to patients from the Five Towns with life-limiting illnesses from its base at Halfpenny Lane in Pontefract. It has helped raise over £50,000 for the charity through its fundraising activities since 2017.

Motorpoint, which opened in Castleford in 2016 after a multi-million pound investment in the branch on the former Glasshoughton Colliery, stocks over 500 low mileage, nearly new cars all under three years old and with less than 25,000 miles, from 30 different manufacturers, with a further 6,500 vehicles available in group stock. Every vehicle will come with the balance of manufacturer’s warranty and is available to drive away the same day. It is also committed to making car buying easy which is why, backed by the Motorpoint Price Promise, Motorpoint will also refund the difference to any customer within seven days of their order if they find the same car from a competitor. As an added bonus, it will also give the customer £50 worth of Amazon vouchers to spend.
