Nissan covers all its cars with a standard three-year manufacturer warranty.
This applies to all Nissan passenger cars, including popular petrol models such as the Nissan Juke and Nissan Qashqai, along with EVs including the Nissan Leaf and Nissan Ariya. The three-year length is average for the industry, but brands such as Toyota, Kia and MG all offer longer warranties as standard.
We'll walk you through Nissan's factory offering. This includes the parts that are covered and any exclusions you should be aware of.

How long is Nissan's manufacturer warranty?

Nissan's manufacturer warranty lasts for three years or 60,000 miles – whichever comes first. The warranty's start date is counted as the car's date of registration. Use the DVLA's vehicle information checker if you want to find out when your car was registered.
Alongside the main vehicle warranty, Nissan includes three years of breakdown cover across the UK and Europe. You also get three years of paint coverage and 12 years of anti-corrosion protection, plus a five-year warranty on EV components and eight years of coverage for EV batteries.
What does Nissan's three-year warranty cover?

Similar to other brands' warranties, Nissan's includes any non-wear-and-tear item that fails due to a problem with its materials, manufacturing or assembly. That means any problems caused by accidents, misuse or neglect of any kind won't be covered.
Typical items covered under Nissan's warranty include:
- Engine (excl. oil, spark plugs, etc)
- Fuel system
- Cooling system (excl. coolant)
- Gearbox (excl. gearbox oil)
- Steering (excl. power steering fluid)
- Brakes (excl. discs, pads, drums, shoes and brake fluid)
- Electrical system (excl. fuses)
- Safety systems
What does Nissan's three-year warranty not cover?

Nissan includes full warranty terms and conditions with its cars' handbooks. However, a non-exhaustive list of excluded items includes:
- Air conditioning re-charge (unless part of a warranty repair)
- Servicing and maintenance
- Ancillary drive belts, pipes and hoses
- Batteries (12V)
- Brake friction materials, discs and drums
- Clutch friction materials, pressure plate and release bearing
- Exhaust system
- Fuses, lamps, bulbs and bulb holders
- Tyres and valves
- Wheels, including balancing, alignment or any other adjustments
- Wiper blades
Many of these parts are considered wear-and-tear items and are expected to be replaced during the normal lifespan of the car.
Nissan will probably reject your warranty claim if you've failed to keep the car serviced on time. Typical service intervals are every 12 months or 10,000 miles – whichever comes first – but make sure to check your handbook for your model's specific interval. Nissan allows leeway of one month or 1,000 miles for services, but repeatedly missing intervals could be deemed as neglect and see your warranty claim rejected.
You'll also find your car won't be covered by Nissan's warranty if you've modified it in any way from its factory-spec condition. Any aftermarket modifications or tampering with your car's software – especially its mileage counter – could be grounds to reject a warranty claim. This doesn't include official Nissan accessories you purchase at the dealership.
Nissan also has a warranty exclusion against 'improper use of the vehicle'. This includes things like overloading the car – for example, towing more than the rated weight – or over-revving the engine. The wording is quite vague here and many brands will invalidate your warranty if you've used your car at a race or track event. We'd suggest speaking to your Nissan dealer before doing any competitive driving in your car.
Nissan warranty limited coverage items
Official Nissan accessories
Any accessories fitted by a Nissan service centre when your car was new are covered for the same three-year period as the rest of the car.
If you buy an official Nissan accessory after the car has been built – i.e. to fit yourself – that part is covered for one year.
EV drivetrain components
Nissan covers drivetrain parts on its EVs separately from the high-voltage battery. This includes:
- Electric motor
- Inverter
- Vehicle control module (VCM)
- Reduction gear
- Power delivery module (PDM)
- Charge connector
- Cable
These parts are guaranteed for five years or 60,000 miles – whichever comes first.
Paintwork
Nissan has a three-year paintwork guarantee. This only covers issues that are caused by faulty materials or poor workmanship. It doesn't cover any kind of external damage to the paint such as weather, vandalism or accident damage.
Is Nissan's three-year warranty transferable?

If you decide to privately sell your Nissan while the warranty is still active, that warranty can be transferred to the new owner. They'll need to contact Nissan's customer service within 30 days of purchasing the vehicle to notify them of the transfer. The terms and conditions of the warranty must've been stuck to throughout the car's life to remain active.
Lots of nearly new Nissan cars for sale at Motorpoint still have a good chunk of their original factory coverage left. Each individual Motorpoint vehicle listing shows exactly how many months' warranty that car has remaining. Any Motorpoint cars no longer covered by their original warranty get a free three-month Motorpoint warranty.
How long is Nissan's EV battery warranty?

Nissan offers a separate, longer warranty for the high-voltage battery packs that power its EVs. It's normal for EVs to lose a little energy capacity over time, so this warranty only exists to protect against excess capacity loss caused by a fault.
If your Nissan EV was registered before 2022, its high-voltage battery is covered for five years or 60,000 miles – whichever comes first. All newer Nissan EVs are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles – whichever comes first. Nissan counts excess capacity loss as any battery that can no longer retain nine bars of its original 12 total.
That might sound like a short period but this is simply how long Nissan is willing to cover a battery replacement financially. In practice, EV batteries last substantially longer than this period and most are expected to last the service life of the car they're fitted to. You can help your EV battery last as long as possible by keeping charge levels below 80% for day-to-day driving and saving the full 100-0% range for long journeys.
What is Nissan's anti-perforation (rust) warranty?
Nissan's anti-perforation warranty matches the industry standard – 12 years with no mileage limit. For a warranty claim to be accepted, the rust must have started internally and eaten through (perforated) the car's exterior.
That means exterior rust of any kind isn't included because this will have been caused by outside factors beyond Nissan's control. For example, unrepaired accident damage that's exposed the car's bare-metal surfaces.
Can you extend Nissan's three-year warranty?
Yes. Nissan offers an extended warranty at an extra cost. You have the ability to cover the car for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles.
You'll need to have an active warranty on your car to be accepted for a Nissan extended warranty. Alternatively, if your Nissan has lapsed out of its original coverage, you can have it inspected by Nissan and any remedial work carried out – at which point, you'll be able to apply for an extended warranty.
You're under no obligation to get an extended warranty from Nissan once your original cover ends, however. Many third-party companies exist to provide extended coverage for older cars, which could be more affordable than Nissan's own package. Motorpoint also offers its own extended warranty.
Does Nissan's three-year warranty apply to all models?
Yes. Every Nissan passenger car receives this warranty coverage as long as the terms and conditions have been upheld. That's all models from the practical Nissan X-Trail and Nissan Ariya, to compact champions like the Nissan Leaf and Nissan Micra.
