The Kia Sportage is a great family SUV and one of the UK’s most popular cars. Here, we answer some questions you might have about owning a Sportage.
Confused by your Kia? Here’s the page you’re looking for. We’ve compiled a lot of frequently asked questions about the Kia Sportage, with answers that are easy to understand and that skip the waffle.
What should the tyre pressure be on a Kia Sportage?

You’ll find the tyre pressure sticker inside the driver’s door, and this tells you how much to inflate your tyres depending on the size of the wheels you have and how much weight you’re carrying. This sticker shows that you should pump your Kia Sportage tyres up to 35psi, although you should pump the rear tyres up to 40psi when the car is fully loaded.
How to reset tyre pressure on Kia Sportage
Once you have inflated your tyres to the correct pressures, you don’t need to do anything technical – simply take the car out for a short-ish drive to allow the tyre pressure sensors in the wheels to recalibrate.
If there’s a warning light, this should go out after a few minutes of driving. If it remains illuminated, you should book your car into a garage to have it looked at by a mechanic.
Where is the TPMS button on a Kia Sportage?
If you’ve been hunting for a TPMS button and are puzzled as to where it is, your search is in vain. Recent Kia Sportage models don’t have a tyre pressure monitoring system button – instead, the sensors recalibrate themselves automatically after a few minutes of driving.
What are the best tyres for a Kia Sportage?

We always recommend buying the best tyres you can afford – whether that’s for a Kia Sportage or any other car. A tyre comparison website, such as Black Circles or RAC Tyres, asks you to input your car’s registration plate number and then will show you suitable tyres. Tyres are rated from A to G on wet-weather performance and fuel efficiency (A being the best), so we’d pick the best ones for a reasonable price.
Kia fits Continental EcoContact 6 tyres to the Sportage, so you may need to stick with these tyres in some circumstances – for example, a tyre insurance policy may stipulate that you replace the factory-fitted tyres with exactly the same ones.
How to change time on Kia Sportage

To change the clock on a Kia Sportage, click into the vehicle settings menu. Under the General Settings tab, choose ‘date and time’. The Sportage should update its time automatically, but you can change it manually by unticking the GPS time option.
Handily, in the main settings menu, Kia gives you a search bar so you can type in something like ‘time’ or ‘clock’ and it’ll show you where you need to go.
How to turn on Kia Sportage fog lights

There's a switch within the indicator stalk, and you'll need to push it up for the front fog lights and down for the rear fogs. When the fog lights are turned on, you'll see confirmation of it with icons on the driver's display.
How to check AdBlue level in a Kia Sportage
In a diesel Kia Sportage, you’ll need to scroll through the menus in the driver’s display screen to check the AdBlue level. It may also be called Urea level.
You’ll get plenty of warnings when your AdBlue is running low, because the car won’t run when the tank’s empty. For more information on this additive, check out our full AdBlue guide.
How to disable alarm on Kia Sportage
On certain Kia Sportage models, you can disable the interior alarm by going into the vehicle settings menu, then selecting Vehicle, Convenience then Advanced Anti-theft. Turning this off will disable the monitoring of any interior movement, and detecting any vehicle incline changes. This is useful for travelling on a ferry, for example.
This setting resets when the engine is turned back on.
How to start Kia Sportage with key
If your key fob isn’t working, press the engine start button with the key fob itself. This is to make sure the key fob and the signal receiver are in close proximity. You’ll get warnings in the car when the key fob battery is running low, so make sure to replace the battery when these warnings appear to save yourself from running out completely.
How to turn off lane assist Kia Sportage

Find the button on the steering wheel that represents a wheel within two lines. Press this until the corresponding icon on the driver’s display turns off. On recent models, the lane assist has to be turned on every time the engine starts so, if you want to turn it off, you’ll have to press this button on every journey.
How to connect phone to Kia Sportage

Click on the phone icon on the touchscreen, and the menu will prompt you to add a new device if there isn’t one already connected. Follow the on-screen instructions and make sure that the number displayed on the car’s screen matches the one on your phone’s screen. You’ll need to select the car in your phone’s Bluetooth menu.
How to open bonnet on Kia Sportage

To open the bonnet, pull the lever that’s located in the driver’s footwell. Then, put your fingers under the front of the bonnet and release the catch to be able to pull the bonnet fully up.
Where is the Kia Sportage fuel door release?

The Kia Sportage doesn’t have a fuel door release button. As long as the car is unlocked, you can open the fuel cap door by pressing on the side edge of the panel.
