Dacia car and SUV range explained

Dacia’s good-value models aren’t just cheap any more – they’re generally very good as well.

In recent years, the brand has managed to keep its value and no-nonsense appeal, while giving its cars a more rugged flavour and more up-to-date technology. Although not too much – a Dacia’s interior is a well-judged mix of the bits you need and none of the bits you don’t. Read on to find out which Dacia model is best for you.

Dacia Sandero

The Sandero kicked off Dacia’s return to the UK in the early 2010s, and it was an unashamedly cheap thing with a standard equipment list that didn’t extend far past ‘wheels’ and ‘doors’. Although the latest Sandero looks to be a lot more expensive, it retains its position as the UK’s cheapest new car – while feeling far more modern and not feeling stripped out. Of course, it’s even better value as a used car, and its small petrol engines keep running costs low once you’ve introduced the Sandero to your driveway.

Dacia Sandero Stepway

Little more than a Sandero with some 4x4 styling cues and a higher price tag, the Sandero Stepway shouldn’t make sense. But it does, because the standard Sandero package is so compelling, and the Stepway isn’t massively more expensive – especially if you opt for PCP finance with its monthly repayments.

Dacia Striker

A brand-new model, the Dacia Striker is here to hit a home run in the family hatchback market. Competing against the likes of the Skoda Scala and SEAT Leon, the Striker is longer and more practical than those cars, while bringing Dacia’s newfound styling pizazz and modern tech.

Dacia SUV range

Dacia Duster

The car named after a fluffy cleaning cloth is now in its third generation, and it’s still making other SUVs look far too expensive. There’s now a (thankfully very simple) touchscreen as standard, plus the option of a frugal hybrid engine and even denim-style upholstery. Practicality is excellent considering the Duster takes up less space on the road than a Ford Focus.

Dacia Bigster

Does what it says on the tin, this. The Bigster is a longer, roomier Duster – still with five seats but an absolutely enormous boot. Which means it’s a truly superb family car.

Dacia Jogger

New Dacia Jogger driving

The Jogger is another Dacia with an unusual name and a feeling that it shouldn’t work but really does. It’s heavily based on the Sandero, but comes with seven seats as standard in a cool, practical MPV body style. There’s a bit of Volvo XC90 in its design from some rear angles, and genuine space for (smallish) adults in the third row. With the same engines as the Sandero, it’s not a speed demon, but offers fine performance for real life and decent fuel economy too.

Dacia electric car range

Dacia Spring

Dacia’s first crack at an electric car still comes with a low price tag – it’s the cheapest EV on sale as we write this. The Spring is first and foremost a city car, so its 140-mile range and diminutive size won’t suit everyone. But if your lifestyle fits the use case for a Spring, you’ll find it can cost just a couple of quid to charge up. It doesn’t just appeal to the wallet, either, with a funky, honest vibe that perfectly sums up what Dacia’s about.
