New Renault Megane E-Tech facelift: price, specs & release date

The Megane E-Tech has been flying under the radar in Renault’s EV range, despite its eye-catching looks.

While the Renault 5 has been the poster car for the brand’s EV range – for good reason – the Renault Megane E-Tech gives you a bit more space and range.

In fact, increased range is a big part of the Megane E-Tech’s midlife facelift, with the quoted range rising from 280 to 310 miles. That’s down to a new 67kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery, which can accept a faster maximum charge range than before. At its peak of 165kW, a 15-80% charge takes 24 minutes.

The Megane E-Tech comes with Google infotainment integration, including Google Maps and the Play store with access to over 100 apps. Having Google Maps built in means that journey times take into account any charging stops required, taking the stress out of long-distance driving.

A heat pump comes as standard (as it has done for the last couple of years) to improve cold-weather efficiency. The Megane now offers full one-pedal driving, which’ll bring you to a complete stop when you take your foot off the accelerator. Previously, you had to apply the brakes at around 6mph.

Renault has also added Vehicle-to-Load functionality, so you can use the car’s battery to recharge other electric items via an adaptor.

Inside, the 12-inch portrait touchscreen now includes Google’s Gemini AI voice assistant. Plus, there’s a new driver recognition system that automatically sets the car up to your preferences when you get in. The drive modes can automatically change based on how you’re driving, too.

Renault has given the Megane E-Tech a sportier look with a more pronounced front bumper. The curved daytime running lights of the old model are replaced by stacks of eight diamond-shaped light elements, and the side air vents are gone. A new fake grille is included between slim headlights.

Six paint colours are available, including this Satin Blue colour, and you can still get a contrast-coloured roof.

There are two trim levels, called Techno and Esprit Alpine. The latter is positioned as a sporty trim level, and comes with 20-inch alloy wheels, massaging power-adjustable front seats and a Harman Kardon sound system. Full prices and specs will be released shortly.

The car, battery and motor are all produced in France, so we’d expect the Megane E-Tech to be eligible for the full £3,750 electric car grant when it goes on sale.
