Why buy a used Volvo EX30
The EX30 marks Volvo's return to the compact car class, a few years after it discontinued the V40 hatchback. It's based on EV tech borrowed from its parent company Geely, which means it's shared with the Smart #1 along with Zeekr and Lynk & Co models sold overseas. Like the rest of the Scandinavian brand's lineup, the EX30 is effortlessly cool, with a minimal-yet-modern cabin and a fuss-free driving experience.

Owning a Volvo EX30
The EX30 is a very likeable car and, for the right driver, it'll probably answer all their needs admirably. It's a little on the tight side to work as a full family car, but as a second car or commuter vehicle, it might be perfect. The driving experience is calm and composed, with little reward for driving it like a hooligan. This is complemented by the smooth single-motor setup that bestows all EX30's with effortless, hushed acceleration. Speedy dual-motor models are fun, but probably not worth the extra cash to most drivers.

Volvo EX30 FAQs
The EX30 is a fairly compact car, measuring in at just over 4.2 metres long. That's on par with family hatchbacks like the Volkswagen Golf.
As a result, you have space for adults in the back, but anyone over average height may find their heads brushing the ceiling and their knees up against the front seat.
With all seats in place, the EX30 has a 318-litre boot. That's only average for the class, but should still handle most drivers' everyday needs. Fold the rear seats down to access the full 904-litre space.
Most EX30s are equipped with a single motor and the long-range battery setup. This is the version we'd recommend, as it has enough range to just about replace a petrol car, and plenty of performance.
Dual-motor models are fun in a straight line but, since the car itself doesn't feel especially sporty, they're only worth investing in if you fancy the bragging rights.
Most EX30 cars have a single motor on the rear axle for two-wheel drive. This setup is best for most drivers, and all you need to tackle cold, slippery conditions is to swap to a set of winter tyres or all-season tyres.
At the top of the range, the EX30 can be equipped with a second motor on the front axle for proper four-wheel drive. This does marginally improve grip and traction, but is much more focused on improving the car's power and acceleration.
Entry-level EX30s have a 51kWh battery pack for up to 209 miles on a full charge.
Long-range models get a 69kWh pack, boosting range up to 303 miles. This figure drops to 280 miles if you pick the high-performance dual-motor version.
