FAQs

Mercedes isn't giving up on the coupe segment without a fight. Replacing the C-Class and E-Class coupes is a brand-new CLE model with sharp styling and a spacious interior. If you accept Mercedes' definition of a coupe, it also makes the CLA, CLS, GLC Coupe and GLE Coupe.

Mercedes coupes offer the brand's luxury interiors with curvier styling. Most offer a selection of powerful and refined engines, and a balance between supreme comfort and a sporty edge. As long as you can put up with reduced practicality versus Mercedes saloons and SUVs, Mercedes coupes are good cars.

We think the E-Class Coupe offers the most Mercedes-ness – it's very luxurious, spacious and high-tech, and comes with some very powerful engines. But if your budget doesn't stretch that far, the Mercedes CLA is a stylish car with economical engines and much of the tech you get in more expensive Merc models.

You'll get the most miles per gallon out of the Mercedes CLA, as it's Mercedes' smallest coupe and comes with economical engines with sensible power outputs. Its petrol engines can manage up to 46mpg and the diesel engine manages up to 56mpg, and there's also a plug-in hybrid that's said to manage up to 282mpg. Of course, to get close to that, you'll need to use the 40-mile electric range on nearly every journey.
