Omoda seven-year warranty – everything you need to know

Omoda cars are a fairly fresh sight on the UK's roads.

To reassure new buyers that its cars are well-made, Omoda offers a seven-year factory warranty across the range. This covers you for any unexpected mechanical or electrical failures during the coverage period.

We'll explain Omoda's warranty here, covering how long it lasts, what's included, and what exclusions apply.

Omoda seven-year warranty overview

  • Applies to all Omoda models until they reach seven years old or 100,000 miles – whichever comes first
  • Omoda also includes a two-year warranty on spare parts and an eight-year warranty on hybrid and EV batteries
  • Has been the brand's default warranty since arriving in the UK in 2024
  • There are fair exclusions for wear-and-tear parts, or damage caused through accidents, misuse or neglect
  • Automatically transfers between owners for the duration of the term
  • Effectively the same seven-year warranty as its sister brand, Jaecoo

How long is Omoda's manufacturer warranty?

All Omoda cars sold in the UK come with a seven-year or 100,000-mile factory warranty – whichever is reached first. That matches Kia's seven-year warranty and only slightly trails the 10-year service-activated warranties offered by Toyota, Lexus and Suzuki. The seven years are counted from when your car was first registered – use the DVLA's vehicle information checker to find the date your car was registered.

If you have parts replaced under warranty, those parts are also covered for the remainder of your warranty period. Spare parts replaced during normal servicing are covered for two years, while the high-voltage battery packs in Omoda's hybrid and EV models are warrantied for eight years or 100,000 miles.

The factory warranty drops to four years or 80,000 miles if the car is ever used for any of the following jobs:

  • Taxi
  • Ride sharing
  • Private hire
  • Vehicle rental
  • Driving school
  • Delivery or courier vehicle
  • Emergency services vehicle

What does Omoda's seven-year warranty cover?

Like most vehicle warranties, Omoda will honour warranty cover if a failure is caused by "defects in manufacture, material or workmanship". That means the part must have failed because it wasn't made or assembled correctly. If you caused the failure through accident, misuse or neglect, Omoda will reject your warranty claim.

Omoda's full warranty terms and conditions contains a more detailed list of parts covered, but key items include:

  • Engine
  • Fuel system (not including fuel filter)
  • Cooling system (not including the coolant itself)
  • Gearbox (not including gearbox fluid)
  • Transfer case and differentials (not including any fluids)
  • Driveline
  • Suspension (not including shock absorbers)
  • Steering system
  • Braking system (not including pads, shoes, discs or drums)
  • Electrical parts (not including fuses)
  • Hybrid components (not including fuses)
  • EV drive components (not including fuses)

What does Omoda's seven-year warranty not cover?

Read Omoda's full warranty T&Cs to see all exclusions. The most important exclusions are:

  • Air conditioning re-gas (unless part of a warranty repair)
  • Adjustments
  • Wheel alignment
  • Wheel balancing
  • Mechanical repairs necessary for normal maintenance and/or normal wear and tear
  • Panel gaps that are within manufacturer specification
  • Noise, vibration or harshness (NVH) that is within manufacturer specification
  • Any damage or defect caused by accident, neglect or misuse

Omoda will refuse any warranty claims if you've not kept up with recommended servicing intervals. You should keep documented proof of your Omoda services in the event you need to claim on the warranty. There is a 30-day or 1,000-mile leeway on each servicing interval.

If it can be shown that the failure was caused by neglect, Omoda is unlikely to approve your warranty claim. Neglect could include failing to repair an ongoing problem that then causes a more serious failure, or using the vehicle beyond official recommendations, for example towing more weight than the car's rated for.

Omoda's warranty cover drops to four years and 80,000 miles for working cars such as taxis, couriers or emergency vehicles. It is your responsibility to register the car at your local Omoda dealership if any of those categories apply. Failing to do so may see your warranty cover invalidated.

Any modifications will automatically invalidate your warranty as Omoda can't verify the quality of non-OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts. Similarly, any tampering with the car's VIN identifier or mileage will invalidate your warranty. Like most brands, any "rallying, racing, hill climbing, speed trials or similar activities" will also see your warranty rendered null and void.

Is Omoda's seven-year warranty transferable?

Omoda 9 in white, rear shot

Yes. Omoda's warranty will automatically transfer with the car to each new owner for the duration of its seven-year, 100,000-mile period. As long as the car has been serviced according to Omoda's recommended intervals and unmodified from its original factory specification, coverage will continue to apply for the entire period.

As a result, all used Omoda cars for sale at Motorpoint are covered by the brand's original warranty, so you can buy with confidence. Every Motorpoint vehicle listing states exactly how much warranty cover remains for that particular car.

How long is Omoda's hybrid and EV battery warranty?

Omoda E5 in black, driving shot

The high-voltage battery packs used by Omoda's hybrid and electric cars are covered under a separate warranty. This coverage guarantees the pack will retain at least 70% of its original capacity for eight years or 100,000 miles. If the pack falls below this capacity while the warranty applies, Omoda will cover any repairs needed to bring it back to at least 70% capacity.

We expect most high-voltage hybrid and EV packs to last a lot longer than this period, however. In fact, today's packs are expected to last around 20 years or 200,000 miles, which means they'll usually last the lifetime of the car without needing to be replaced. You can help your battery pack last as long as possible by keeping the charge between 20-80% for day-to-day driving, and only using the full 100-0% range when travelling long distances.

What is Omoda's anti-perforation (rust) warranty?

Omoda offers an industry-standard 12-year anti-perforation warranty for its cars. 'Anti-perforation' refers to rust that forms on a vehicle panel and leads to a hole forming.

The warranty only covers rust that forms as a result of any defect in the car's materials, manufacturing or assembly. If rust forms as a result of external damage, such as unrepaired accident damage, it won't be covered by the warranty.

Can you extend Omoda's seven-year warranty?

There is no default extension to Omoda's factory warranty. This is because the seven-year period is already quite a bit longer than the three-year cover most rivals offer, with those brands usually charging extra to extend the warranty to match Omoda's standard coverage.

Third-party providers might be able to arrange an extended warranty for you after the seven-year period runs out. You'll need to arrange this yourself, however, and it might get more expensive as the car gets older.

Does Omoda's seven-year warranty apply to all models?

Yes. All Omoda cars sold in the UK are covered by its seven-year factory warranty. That means the Omoda 5 and E5 small family SUVs, as well as the recently announced Omoda 7 and Omoda 9.
