KGM – previously SsangYong – offers a five-year warranty across its lineup.
All fuel-powered KGM models are protected for five years, while its electric cars are covered for seven years.
We'll cover the KGM warranty in more detail here, including what's covered and what the exclusions are, as well as the mileage limits that apply.
KGM five-year warranty overview
- Applies to all KGM models registered from 1 January 2024
- For fuel-powered cars, it lasts for five years or 100,000 miles – whichever milestone comes first
- KGM's EV models get a seven-year warranty, with a 90,000-mile limit
- Older SsangYong cars registered until the end of 2023 keep the remainder of their existing warranty cover
- The warranty doesn't cover wear-and-tear parts, or any damage from accidents, misuse or neglect
- Warranty automatically transfers between owners as long as the cover remains valid
- High-voltage EV and hybrid batteries are protected by a separate warranty
How long is KGM's manufacturer warranty?

If your KGM is powered by fuel, the manufacturer warranty is five years or 100,000 miles – whichever comes first. That applies to all KGM cars registered from 1 January 2024. The warranty starts from the day the car is registered – you can find this date using the DVLA's vehicle information checker.
KGM's electric cars are covered under warranty for seven years or 90,000 miles – whichever comes first. This covers all the usual warranty items, along with the car's high-voltage battery pack.
Any parts that are replaced under your KGM warranty will be covered for the remainder of the warranty period. This doesn't apply to wear-and-tear parts, or to limited-coverage items – explained in more detail below.
What does KGM's five-year warranty cover?

KGM will honour warranty repairs if the failure is caused by "faults in materials and workmanship at the time of manufacture". In plain English, it applies to any covered part that fails because it wasn't built or assembled correctly. Your warranty claim will be refused if the failure was caused by accident, misuse or neglect.
You can refer to KGM's warranty terms and conditions for more coverage details, but key items covered by the warranty includes:
- Engine (not including spark plugs)
- Fuel system (not including fuel filter)
- Cooling system (not including the coolant itself)
- Gearbox (not including gearbox fluid or clutch)
- Driveline (not including wheel bearings)
- Suspension (not including shock absorbers, springs or struts)
- Steering system (not including ball joints)
- Braking system (not including pads, shoes, discs or drums)
- Electrical parts (not including fuses)
- Hybrid and EV drive components (not including fuses)
What does KGM's five-year warranty not cover?

Like all manufacturer warranties, KGM's coverage doesn't include wear-and-tear items. The brand gives a non-exhaustive list with examples including:
- Suspension links
- Ball joints
- Parts worn by normal driver usage (eg. brake discs and linings)
- Parts normally replaced or adjusted during regular servicing
KGM will not honour your warranty if your car hasn't been maintained in line with its servicing schedule. For petrol and EV models, servicing intervals are every 12 months or 10,000 miles – whichever is first. Intervals for diesel models are 12 months with a 12,500-mile limit. KGM will still accept your claim if you only missed a few intervals by no more than 1 month or 1,000 miles – but it can refuse your claim if you do this too often.
Any modifications to the vehicle within the warranty period will void your cover, as will any repairs that aren't carried out to KGM's specifications. You can also expect to have your claim rejected if you tamper with the vehicle's on-board systems in any way – especially so with the car's mileage.
KGM probably isn't the first brand you think of if you're looking for a racing car, which is just as well because any "racing, rallying or other competitive [driving] purposes" will void your warranty. Several KGM models are designed for off-road driving, but you might need to service your car more often if you drive off road regularly. Failures caused by off-road driving with insufficient servicing may not be covered under warranty.
KGM warranty limited coverage items
KGM includes a list of limited-coverage items, which are covered for a different period to the standard five-year warranty. These include:

- Spark plugs – up to their first scheduled change

- Glass – three months or 2,000 miles

- Audio – 36 months
- Alloy wheels – 36 Months or 37,500 miles

Is KGM's five-year warranty transferable?

Yes, KGM's warranty is automatically transferred to each new owner while the warranty period remains active. The warranty remains valid as long as the service schedule has been adhered to, and the car hasn't fallen foul of any of the other exclusions detailed above.
That means all nearly new and used KGM cars for sale at Motorpoint are covered by the balance of their factory warranty. Each individual Motorpoint vehicle listing details exactly how much warranty cover that particular car has left.
How long is KGM's EV battery warranty?

KGM's general warranty across all its electric cars is seven years and 90,000 miles. That's not just for EV-specific components like the high-voltage battery, but applies to all other warrantied parts just like the fuel-powered warranty – but with two extra years of coverage.
The high-voltage EV battery itself is covered for the same seven-year, 90,000-mile period – roughly in line with current industry standards. That coverage guarantees the battery will retain at least 70% of its original capacity for the duration of the warranty period.
Note that this is just the period KGM is willing to warranty the battery pack for. Most modern EV packs are expected to last far longer than this – typically lasting the entire life of the car without ever needing replacement. You can help your battery last as long as possible by keeping its charge between 20-80% for regular driving and only using the full 100-0% range on long-distance drives.
What is KGM's anti-perforation (rust) warranty?
KGM offers an anti-perforation warranty that protects against holes in the body or vehicle structure caused by corrosion or rust. This lasts for six years. While we don't expect seven-year-old KGMs to start rusting, it's noteworthy that this is about half the typical anti-perforation offered the majority of KGM's competitors.
Be aware that any surface rust caused by damage such as bodywork scratches or stone chips, won't be covered by the warranty and you'll be expected to pay for repairs yourself.
KGM warranties the paintwork on its bodies and wheels. This only applies if the problem is caused by faulty paintwork, and not by external damage of any kind. For bodywork, the paint coverage period is three years or 60,000 miles – whichever comes first – with a three-year/37,500-mile limit for paint on your alloy wheels.
Can you extend KGM's five-year warranty?
KGM is not currently advertising an extended warranty product, considering this five-year package is already two years longer than the industry standard.
You can source extended warranties from third-party providers – including Motorpoint! These will continue to protect you once the manufacturer's coverage ends, but may get pricier as the vehicle gets older.
Does KGM's five-year warranty apply to all models?
Yes. KGM's five-year warranty is its standard offering across all its fuel-powered cars. For its electric cars, this period extends to seven years for extra peace of mind.
That means engine-powered KGMs like the Torres family SUV and Tivoli small SUV get five years of protection, while EVs like the Torres EVX get a bonus two years of cover.
