2026 Cupra Born facelift: price, specs & release date

The Cupra Born is one of our favourite electric hatchbacks, and it’s just received a nip and tuck to keep it fresh.

Cupra has updated its Born electric hatchback with new styling at each end and extra range for the standard model.

The headlight clusters are a new shape and gain a trio of triangular daytime running lights, and below that there are pointier air intakes and bumper elements.

The triangles continue around the back, where the new tail-light signature is eye-catching and features an illuminated Cupra logo. The changes bring the Born in line with Cupra’s fresher models, such as the facelifted Leon and Formentor, but it’s not such an overhaul that it looks like a different car.

Additionally, there are new alloy wheel designs and a new Timanfaya Grey paint colour, one of six available.

A new one-pedal drive mode has been introduced alongside wider tyres, while the powertrain lineup has been altered. The smaller 58kWh battery is now mated to a 190hp electric motor, which is slightly less powerful than before. We’d expect the 0-62mph time to rise a couple of tenths from the current car’s 7.3-second sprint.

The bigger battery is now 79kWh, up from 77kWh. It’s the same one that you get in the Born VZ hot hatch, and this new battery promises a range of up to 372 miles. Standard cars get 231hp, while the range-topping VZ wades in with 326hp.

Cupra has ditched the frustrating touch-sensitive panels on the Born’s steering wheel, instead fitting physical buttons that should be a lot easier to use. The small digital driver’s display has been replaced by a full-blown 10.25-inch screen, and the door panels have been updated to feel more upmarket.

The Spanish brand also mentions updates to its Travel Assist system, which combines a lot of different driver assistance features into semi-autonomous driving capability. Optionally, you’ll be able to pick a head-up display with augmented reality, and a Sennheiser sound system.

The Cupra Born is a sportier version of the Volkswagen ID.3, so some of these changes might make their way onto the VW as well. Both cars face off against the MG4, Renault Megane E-Tech and Kia EV4.

Prices shouldn’t change too much from the pre-facelift Born, which starts at around £35,000 and tops out at around £45,000 for the VZ.
