Before the day of sale

  • Once you have completed the car valuation form and chosen a store to drop your car off at you will receive an email confirming the details of your sale, and explaining what will happen and what you will need to bring with you.
  • If any of the details in this email are incorrect, please call our team on 01332 227227
  • You will also receive a phone call from our team confirming what will happen on the day of sale, plus giving you the opportunity to answer any additional questions that you may have.
  • This call will come from a Derby phone number, so keep an eye out for a call from a (01332) phone number. If you miss this call or still have questions, please call our team on 01332 227227

On the day of sale 

  • Upon arrival at your chosen Motorpoint store, a member of our team will visually inspect your car to check it matches the details provided.
  • We will then complete the necessary paperwork, and provide you with the yellow slip of the V5 document to send to the DVLA in order to transfer ownership of your car to ourselves
  • Here is a checklist of everything you will need to bring with you when you sell your car:
    • V5/Log Book
    • MOT Certificate
    • Spare Keys (if available)
    • Service History (if available)
    • A copy of your finance settlement letter (if you have finance to be cleared on the car you are selling) OR a clearance letter if you have recently paid any finance on the vehicle. The expiry date on the letter must have a minimum of 3 working days (excluding weekends) remaining at the point of drop off to ensure the settlement amount is correct at the time of payment.
    • Photo ID as proof of identity to receive payment for your car (either a photocard driving licence or a passport and utility bill dated within the last 3 months). Please note that the name and address on your ID (and utility bill) must match that on the V5C for the vehicle being sold

Payment Details

  • Payment for the sale of your car will be made by bank transfer (BACS).
  • The bank account will need to be in the name of the person whose name is on the V5C (or one of the names on the account if it is a joint account).
  • Please bring some photo ID (ideally a photo driving licence) with you on the day as proof of identity. If you don’t have a photocard licence, please bring your passport and a utility bill (with a name and address matching that on the V5C) dated within the last 3 months.
  • You should expect to receive payment for your car in your bank account within an hour. Weekend sales will be seen in your account the following Monday.
