Why buy a used Toyota Aygo X?

The Toyota Aygo X doesn't just replace the older Aygo hatchback – it totally upgrades the format in every way. Interior quality is vastly improved and standard equipment is far more comprehensive. Plus the car's extra ride height means good visibility and less chance of scuffing the bodywork on a jagged kerb. The 1.0-litre petrol engine isn't particularly powerful but returns wallet-friendly fuel economy.

First up is the Aygo X Pure, which gets 17-inch alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera and a seven-inch touchscreen with smartphone connectivity.

Moving up to Edge spec increases the wheel size and screen size by an inch, and also brings privacy glass, automatic wipers, front fog lights and black rear pillars.

Exclusive is the top-spec Aygo X, with a nine-inch touchscreen and wireless phone connectivity and charging. A limited-edition Aygo X Undercover version adds a graphic pack and black wheels.

Owning a used Toyota Aygo X

The Aygo X is more expensive than the car it replaces, but interior quality takes a big step up to reflect that. With a multifunction steering wheel and a semi-digital dash display, the new car feels a lot more modern than its predecessor. We love the pops of colour you get on higher-spec versions, which help make the interior feel playful. It’s also handy that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard, so you can use your preferred mapping and entertainment apps.

FAQs

The Toyota Aygo X came onto the market in 2022, and quickly found favour with buyers looking for a cheap and stylish runabout. All Aygo Xs have five doors, but you’ll find some with a folding fabric roof that gives some of the benefits of a convertible without the associated drawbacks. If you’re considering buying a used Aygo X, also check out its Aygo predecessor – this slightly older car is often very affordable.

There’s only one engine to choose, so the best engine is the 1.0-litre petrol. It would have been interesting to see an electrified Aygo X, but that would have pushed the price up to the point where you might as well get the bigger Yaris.

At 3.7 metres long, the Toyota Aygo X slots into the gap between the smaller Fiat 500 and superminis like the Yaris and Ford Fiesta. Its crossover vibe isn’t just for show, as the driver’s seat is mounted higher than before and so it’s easier to get in and out. The front seats are more spacious than in the older Aygo, and the boot is much bigger too – the Aygo X’s 231-litre boot is 60 litres more than before.
