Why buy a used Audi A5?

Up until 2024 the Audi A5 was a sleek three- or four-door coupe version of the Audi A4. However, Audi has since torn up its long-established naming conventions and now the A5 replaces the A4 in the Audi line-up – meaning you can now get an Audi A5 saloon (which confusingly has a large hatchback-like boot opening) or an Audi A5 Avant – an estate.

By virtue of essentially being a new-generation A4, the latest Audi A5 has plenty of space in the back for passengers, a practical boot and Audi's usual impressive infotainment technology. It's a posh-feeling car too, and one that's certain to impress passengers with its refined styling and quiet driving experience. You can get it with a range of powerful-yet-economical engines (including a plug-in-hybrid version), meaning it's a fantastic all-rounder.

If you're looking at pre-2024 cars then you'll see both three-door A5 coupe and more practical five-door A5 Sportback models for sale. Their interiors use previous-generation Audi tech, but they're still deeply desirable cars that blend style with practicality. This older model also came in convertible form, which was killed off for the later 2024-onwards model.

Popular Audi A5 trims for sale at Motorpoint

The post-2024 Audi A5 comes in Technik, Sport, S Line and Black Edition trim levels. Sport models add LED lights, heated front seats and a reversing camera to the entry-level Technik models, while S Line and Black Editions get sportier alloy wheel designs, sportier body kits and front sports seats.

Most pre-2024 A5s come in the high-spec S Line and Black Edition trim levels. These bring fancy styling touches over the entry-level Sport trim, which looks more restrained but still has all the tech you’d expect – such as a reversing camera, heated half-leather seats and climate control.

Owning a used Audi A5

A used Audi A5 should be reliable – the brand generally has a good reputation in this area. The engine range is mostly made up of sensible choices, and a diesel A5 can even achieve close to 60mpg on the right roads. Every A5 comes with plenty of standard equipment and high-end screens, making it a lovely place to spend your time.
