Motorpoint employee gets on his bike to raise money for charity

02 November 2019 Press Release

Motorpoint Castleford’s Michael Sutton is embarking on the Tour De Motorpoint this month to raise funds for The Prince of Wales Hospice

“I’m a proud supporter of the Hospice, and the great work they do in our local community, and 14 miles a day, either before or after work, on my spin bike is nothing if the money raised can help make a difference to people dealing with life limiting o”

The 29 year old, who has worked in West Yorkshire as a Vehicle Detailer and Yard Technical Trainer for the UK’s leading independent car retailer since it opened in April 2016, has decided to get on his spin bike at his local gym, xcercise4less, to raise £1,000 for the popular charity.

Michael is aiming to ride 14 miles a day in order to travel the 425 miles between the company’s branches in the North of England and Scotland – Birtley, Burnley, Castleford, Glasgow, Sheffield and Widnes.

Motorpoint, which has a branch in Castleford, is a long-standing supporter of The Prince of Wales Hospice. Based in Pontefract, the hospice has provided palliative care and support to thousands of patients with life-limiting illnesses since 1989. Earlier this year Motorpoint teamed up with HARIBO to help raise £30,000 in a car giveaway as part of the Hospice’s 30th Anniversary celebrations.

“I’ve already got a pretty awesome beard,” explained Michael, who is currently also training for a Strong Man competition next year, “so I decided to do something physically rather than follically changing this month and came up with ‘Move for Movember’ instead.

“I’m a proud supporter of the Hospice, and the great work they do in our local community, and 14 miles a day, either before or after work, on my spin bike is nothing if the money raised can help make a difference to people dealing with life limiting or life threatening conditions in the Five Towns area of West Yorkshire.”

Michael is no stranger to fundraising for The Prince of Wales Hospice. Last year he took in a Charity Fire Walk at the branch on Whistler Drive, two minutes drive from Xscape and the Junction 32 Outlet Centre, helping to raise almost £2,500 on the night.

He is also playing an instrumental part in next month’s Charity Ice Rink at Motorpoint Castleford - which this year takes place on Saturday, December 21 and Sunday, December. Entry is free but all donations received will go to support The Prince of Wales Hospice. What’s more, a number of local businesses will be exhibiting at the event on both days to give visitors the opportunity to purchase last minute stocking fillers while the Castleford Tigers players have agreed to participate in a special ‘Selection Box Treasure Hunt’ at the branch on Saturday, December 21.
