Charity Football Match Raises Money for Sue Ryder

25 July 2018 Press Release

Motorpoint has raised over £1,000 for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.

Staff from across the twelve branches of the car buyers’ champion travelled to the ABAX Stadium in May to take part in a Motorpoint Peterborough v Motorpoint All Stars game. The special charity football match was hosted at Peterborough United, after the club agreed to host the one-off match as part of its long-term naming rights partnership with Motorpoint.

Peterborough United not only gave Motorpoint exclusive use of the pitch for the day but kitted the players out in their first team home and away strips. They also kindly provided changing facilities and officials for the hotly contested game. After 90+ minutes of great play, it was won 5-2 by the Motorpoint All Stars. Most importantly, a total of £1,250 was raised for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice from the day.

Tom Stanton, General Manager of Motorpoint Peterborough, explained: “I can’t thank everyone who took part enough. Not only did my colleagues travel halfway across the country to play in the game but they raised a really impressive amount of money in the process for a charity that is close to the hearts of everyone at Motorpoint.”

Motorpoint Peterborough officially adopted the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice as its charitable partner in 2017. Since then, staff have organised a series of fundraisers to support the work of the Hospice. They have also sponsored many high-profile events, such as the 20th Annual Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival at the Peterborough Rowing Lake.

Located on Edgerley Drain Road in the city, the Motorpoint Peterborough branch is open seven days a week including until 8pm weekdays. It stocks 500 low mileage nearly new cars from 30 different manufacturers – all available to drive away on the same day.
