Audi Q2 models and trim levels explained

The Audi Q2 is a great choice if you want a luxurious-feeling car that’s spacious but easy to park.

The Q2 is a more youthful-looking thing than Audi’s larger, lumbering SUVs, and Audi barely changed its design over the years it was on sale. Being based on VW Group small cars, the Q2 combines small engines and low running costs with typical Audi quality.

Since its launch in 2016, the Audi Q2 has always been a five-door, five-seat SUV with style on its side. You can find the Q2 in more colourful paint choices than other Audi SUVs.

In Europe, the Q2 has been offered with petrol and diesel engines that also saw service in cars such as the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf.

The Q2 was facelifted in 2020. Production of the Q2 stopped in 2026, with no replacement model expected – although Audi is working on a small electric car called the A2 e-tron, which'll be a similar size to the Q2.

Audi SQ2

To create the range-topping SQ2, Audi squeezed in a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 300hp. This four-wheel-drive Q2 sprints from 0-62mph in just 4.9 seconds, on the way to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. However, like the Volkswagen T-Roc R with which it shares a lot of parts, the SQ2 is fast but not the last word in driving fun.

Audi Q2 trim levels

You’ll find examples of the Audi Q2 in the following trim levels:

  • Technik – the cheapest Q2, but still features nice-to-haves like cruise control and a powered bootlid
  • Sport – this trim is excellent value for money, gaining a modern-looking digital driver’s display and built-in sat nav
  • S Line – best-selling trim with a sportier look and part-leather seats
  • Black Edition – with black trim and big alloy wheels, this version of the Q2 is designed to stand out
  • Vorsprung – a rare model with a focus on high-end features, such as a branded sound system, adaptive suspension and a sunroof

You might also come across SE, which sat towards the entry point of the Q2 range in its earlier years, plus Edition 1 – which later became Black Edition.

Which Audi Q2 is the best?

Having been on sale for a decade, you’ll find that the Q2 hits a lot of budgets and price points. If you can, we’d recommend getting a Q2 with Audi’s impressive Virtual Cockpit – that’s the digital driver’s display that replaces traditional dials – because it makes the Q2 feel a lot more modern.

The petrol engines will suit a wide variety of buyers, while the diesel versions provide better fuel economy on longer journeys.

What is the fastest Audi Q2 model?

The fastest Q2 is the SQ2, which gets an exclusive grille and four exhaust pipes – although it’s still quite understated and could easily fly under the radar. But with 300hp, Audi’s grippy quattro four-wheel-drive system and a 0-62mph time of just 4.9 seconds, the SQ2 can keep up with powerful sports cars.
