Frequently Asked Questions
Is the price in keeping with used car market prices?
At Motorpoint, we check vehicle prices every day. We’re so confident that we’re offering the best price, that if you find a like-for-like car for less than we’re offering, we’ll refund double the difference to you.
Is the car in an acceptable condition?
When buying a second-hand car, you can expect some wear and tear. All of our cars are checked by experts to make sure that they meet our Motorpoint Quality Standard. Our team checks the interior, exterior, wheels, and tyres of your car, as well as additional mechanical checks. Find out more about our Quality Standard.
Is anything missing?
Before you drive away, you should make sure your car is kitted out appropriately. Check the floor of the boot to ensure the spare wheel is there. Some may come with a second set of keys and you should be able to find the handbook in the glovebox. Tyres, legally, should have a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm. It’s also worth checking the fluid levels under the bonnet.
Are the electrics in working order?
Check any electrical features, such as automatic windows, mirrors, wiper blades, the air-con and radio. Do the warning lights work as expected when starting up the vehicle?

Generally, the average mileage for cars each year is 12,000 miles. For example, if the used car is 2 years old, you should expect it to have travelled around 24,000 miles.
The £199 deposit is a reservation fee which takes the car or van off of our website and means it can't be purchased by another person. The £199 reservation fee is included in the total amount payable and is not an additional fee. If you have chosen to purchase your car using finance, the £199 reservation fee is included in the amount you wish to pay towards your deposit. This deposit is non-refundable unless upon inspection, test drive and collection of the vehicle, it didn't meet the Motorpoint Quality Standard.
We offer test drives seven days a week on all our vehicles. Ask a member of our team to arrange one for you.
You’ll need to bring your photo card driving licence and a second proof of identity such as a debit card, credit card or passport.
If you have a paper licence, we will need to see your passport as photo ID before we get you on the road.
As you'd expect, there is no cost – our test drives are completely free! Browse our cars and book a test drive today.
Test drives are only available if you're between the ages of 21 and 85, have had a maximum of 9 points on your licence in the past 3 years and have been driving for at least 1 year. You must also have had no disqualifications in the past 5 years.

Yes, hybrid cars are charged in exactly the same way as petrol and diesel cars. If a hybrid car has low emissions, the first-year rate will be cheaper, but from the second year onwards all cars are subject to a flat rate – either £200 for cars costing under £40,000 or £640 for cars costing over £40,000.
As of April 2025, electric cars now cost £10 to tax in the first year, and are liable for the same rate of tax as petrol or diesel cars thereafter. From the second year, your EV will cost £200 or £640 to tax, depending on whether it originally cost under or over £50,000.
At Motorpoint, all of our cars come with a minimum of 3 months warranty. You also have the option to purchase an extended warranty.
