Lexus hatchback FAQs

Yes. Lexus makes the CT 200h hatchback. This is a five-door, five-seat family car that shares much of its DNA with the Toyota Prius. That probably won't set your heart pounding, but it should still appeal to your head thanks to low running costs and legendary reliability.

You'll also find the Lexus UX for sale. Strictly speaking this is a compact SUV, but its swoopy looks and relatively low ride height make it looks more like a big hatchback. This might be worth cross shopping against the CT if you don't mind a slightly larger car.

The Lexus CT 200h is the smallest and, indeed, the only hatchback in the Lexus lineup. It's a little less than 4.4 metres long, which puts it in the same ball park as the Mercedes A-Class, BMW 1 Series, Audi A3 and Ford Focus.

Despite its city-friendly size, you should be able to fit four adults in the CT without complaint, although adding a fifth to the back row will leave elbow room in short supply. The Lexus UX SUV has only a slightly larger footprint than the CT, with a decent extra helping of interior space that might be handy if you regularly use the back seats.

The Lexus CT 200h is the only hatchback the brand makes. That doesn't just make it a good car by default, however, because the CT offers excellent quality, easy usability and low running costs to justify its position as one of the best hybrid hatchbacks you can buy.

It's been around for quite a long time now and some rivals might feel a little newer inside and out – including the company's own Lexus UX SUV – but it's stood the test of time for a reason. Plus, Lexus consistently tops reliability surveys so you should be get many years of hassle-free use from your CT with nothing more than scheduled maintenance.
