Peugeot electric buying guide

What Peugeot electric models are there?

Peugeot currently makes two electric cars and two electric MPVs based on its van range.

The lineup starts with the e-208, which looks essentially the same as the regular 208 hatchback. Inside, there's the distinctive angular dashboard and small steering wheel widely used across Peugeot's current lineup, and most of the materials used feel suitably premium. There's space for four adults and a boot that's about average for the segment. It's nice to drive, too, with accurate controls, a composed ride, and a decent slug of acceleration from the 100kW (134hp) electric motor. The 50kWh battery pack should return more than 200 miles of range in ideal conditions.

Next up is the e-2008, based on the 2008 compact SUV. This uses the same EV setup as the e-208, with a 100kW (134hp) motor and 50kWh battery pack. Having a slightly taller, heavier body means performance is less energetic than the e-208 but still plenty for day-to-day driving, and range takes a 5-10% hit. The tradeoff, however, is a noticeable jump in practicality, with more rear passenger space, making this a better choice for families with kids, and a larger boot that can swallow taller and wider cargo. Around corners, the e-2008 isn't quite as sharp as the e-208, but the suspension still softens rough roads impressively.

Finally, there's the e-Rifter and e-Traveller MPVs, which swap out the diesel engines found in the Rifter and Traveller passenger vans for the same 50kWh battery and 100kW (134hp) motor. Like their fuel-powered siblings, these vehicles are all about practicality, sacrificing a little of the premium feel of Peugeot's electric car lineup, for a vast amount of passenger and cargo capacity. Claimed electric range sits at 172 miles for the e-Rifter and 148 miles for the e-Traveller.

What Peugeot electric models are SUVs?

Currently, the only Peugeot electric SUV is the e-2008 compact SUV. Pairing the same 50kWh battery pack and 100kW (134hp) motor found across Peugeot, Vauxhall and Citroen EV lineups, with the brand's attractive 2008 body shape and quirky interior.

Peugeot currently makes two larger SUVs – the five-seat 3008 and the seven-seat 5008 – and neither of these models is offered as a fully electric SUV. However, the 3008 is available as plug-in hybrids, combining a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor for strong performance and excellent fuel economy. This model can travel more than 30 miles on electric power alone, which might be enough to cover your daily commute if you can charge at your place of work.

Peugeot electric FAQs

Yes. Peugeot currently makes two electric cars and two electric MPVs based on its van models.

The electric car lineup includes the e-208 hatchback and the e-2008 compact SUV. Both of these models use a 50kWh battery pack, which should equate to a range of more than 200 miles in good conditions.

You'll also come across the battery-powered e-Rifter and e-Traveller. These are MPVs that borrow many parts from Peugeot's van lineup and combine them with the same 50kWh battery pack as the electric car lineup. Range performance suffers slightly but practicality takes a huge leap over the electric car line.

Considering the parts used under the bodywork in Peugeot's electric cars are so similar, the differences between models are fairly minor. However, we think the e-208 hatchback has a little edge in this competition because, as the smallest and lightest option in the lineup, you get the longest range and the best acceleration of any Peugeot electric car. However, if you need the back seats for more than just giving occasional lifts to friends, the more practical e-2008 SUV is easier to live with on a daily basis.

For the longest possible range in a Peugeot electric car, you'll want to check out the e-208 hatchback. This uses a 50kWh battery pack for a claimed range of 217 miles. This figure has been slightly upgraded throughout the e-208's life, with models available up to the end of 2022 capable of 225 miles, and 2023-onwards cars now able to cover 248 miles on a full charge.

Yes. Like every electric car currently sold in the UK, all Peugeot EVs are automatic only. This is because electric motors don't need clutches or multi-speed gearboxes to work, instead directly driving the wheels through a single-speed gearbox.

That means, if you have an automatic-only licence or just prefer not having to shift yourself, a Peugeot electric car might be the perfect choice for you.

Peugeot as a brand has performed better in recent reliability surveys than it has in the past, with fewer owners reporting quality issues and mechanical failures.

All Peugeot models get a three-year warranty as standard, while its electric cars also get an additional eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty – guaranteeing the pack to at least 70% of its original capacity. This is comparable to battery warranties provided by other carmakers.

As a general rule, EVs should prove more reliable than their fuel-powered counterparts because there are fewer parts that can go wrong in a battery-powered car. What's more, the extra regenerative braking EVs can achieve often means brake pads and discs last longer for EVs compared with fuel-powered cars.
