What Kia xCeed trim levels are there?

Kia’s car names can sometimes be a mouthful, but its trim levels are fairly simple – there’s 2, 3 and 4 – and then ‘Connect’ and ‘GT-Line’ to somewhat muddy an otherwise easy-to-understand spec list.

xCeed models in 2 trim get alloy wheels, LED headlights, a reversing camera, air conditioning, cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and an infotainment system with phone connectivity.

Above 2 sits Connect trim, which gains larger alloy wheels, part-faux-leather upholstery, and a built-in sat-nav for the infotainment system.

GT-Line is Kia’s sporty trim level in a similar manner as BMW’s M Sport. This model includes large alloy wheels, a meaner-looking body kit and darker-coloured styling details to help it look sportier. Inside, you get a sportier-feeling flat-bottomed steering wheel. GT-Line S cars include the premium features from 3 trim, combined with the sportier looks of GT-Line models.

3 trim brings heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, rear parking sensors, climate control, along with some chrome styling details on the exterior.

Range-topping 4 cars get posh touches including leather upholstery, digital dials in place of traditional gauges, and heated and ventilated front seats.

Kia xCeed interior and technology

The xCeed’s interior is neatly laid out and feels reassuringly well built – a fact that’s backed up by Kia’s excellent seven-year warranty. It might lack some of the style you’ll find in more premium models from Mercedes or Audi, but all features and controls are intuitive and fuss-free in use. Kia scores points for keeping physical controls for the heater and air-conditioning systems, rather than shove them in a touchscreen menu.

The infotainment system in the xCeed is one of the better units in this class – it’s responsive to the touch and all versions come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Higher trim levels gain a larger screen and a built-in sat nav, while range-topping models also feature a digital screen in front of the driver in place of the traditional gauges.

Inside, the xCeed is just about large enough for smaller families, with enough room to convince struggling kids to sit in their car seats. However, you don’t get quite as much access as you’ll find in the taller Niro or even larger Sportage models, which might be better choices if you need more space. Boot space is about average for the class and should be more than a match for the weekly shop or the occasional holiday.

Kia xCeed engine range explained

Kia xCeed 1.0T GDi petrol

Entry-level xCeed models come with a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This makes 118hp, which is just enough to hit 62mph from rest in under 11 seconds. This engine will feel fine around town but might feel very slightly strained during motorway overtakes.

Kia xCeed 1.5T GDi petrol

The more powerful petrol option is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder. Power is boosted to 158hp, which drops the 0-62mph time down to 8.7 seconds, helping this version feel stronger when accelerating and more relaxed at speed. This engine replaced a slightly less powerful 1.4-litre petrol engine.

Kia xCeed 1.6 CRDi diesel

This is the diesel engine option available for the xCeed. It’s a 1.6-litre four-cylinder unit that makes 136hp, giving it a decent 10.2-second 0-62mph time. Efficiency can reach higher than 60mpg if you drive gently.

Kia xCeed 1.6 GDi PHEV

Part-way through the xCeed’s life, Kia dropped the diesel engine option in favour of a fuel-sipping plug-in hybrid petrol engine. This version mixes a 1.6-litre, non-turbo petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack. This combination makes around 139hp, giving a respectable 10.6-second 0-62mph time. Use the battery power carefully and Kia reckons you can average more than 200mpg, or avoid using the petrol engine entirely to enjoy around 30 miles of electric-only range.

Kia xCeed FAQs

Kia makes the xCeed in one version only – a five-door SUV with a hatchback boot lid. It’s closely related to the Ceed hatchback, which loses the SUV styling and a little interior space, but is still an accomplished all-round family hatchback.

If you’re considering the Kia xCeed, you might want to cross shop it against the Kia Niro or slightly larger Kia Sportage. There’s also the Hyundai Kona and Hyundai Bayon from Kia’s partner brand or, looking further afield, there’s also strong competition from the Ford Puma, Mazda CX-30, Toyota C-HR and Volkswagen T-Roc.

The xCeed is slightly less than 4.4 metres in length. That’s exactly the same length as the Mazda CX-30 and a negligible 5mm longer than the Toyota C-HR.

Compared to the regular Ceed hatchback, the xCeed gains a small amount of extra interior space, translating into a little more legroom for rear passengers. Four adults will fit in reasonable comfort, but seating five will see rear passengers bump elbows and fighting over foot room. The boot also gains a few extra litres over the Ceed, and is large enough for a couple of large suitcases, with a usefully square opening.

Kia includes several engine options for the xCeed including petrol, diesel, and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. The petrols will suit most buyers but long-range drivers might want to consider the diesel, while the PHEV version will work well if you do a lot of stop-start urban driving.

The Kia xCeed gives you the long warranty, economical engines and practicality of the standard Ceed, but with a hit of trendy SUV styling. It's reliable, comfortable and easy to drive so, yes, the Kia xCeed is a good car if that all sounds good to you.

Being so heavily based on the Ceed, all xCeed models are front-wheel drive. If you want a Kia 4x4, there are all-wheel-drive versions of the Sportage available.

Kia would like you to think of the xCeed as an SUV, but it won't give you the high ride height you get in a Sportage. It has SUV styling, so you could call it an SUV or a crossover without many people batting an eyelid.
