Kia ProCeed buying guide

What Kia ProCeed trim levels are there?

The Kia ProCeed only comes in sporty trim levels – GT-Line, GT-Line S and GT. They all sound the same, so we’ll talk you through them now.

GT-Line is a mid-range trim level on other Kias but it’s the cheapest ProCeed model. Even so, you get 17-inch alloy wheels, tinted rear windows, heated front seats, cruise control, keyless entry and start, a reversing camera, and a heap of safety assistance tech including lane-keep assist and high-beam assist. Post-2021 cars also get LED headlights as standard.

GT-Line S mixes the sporty styling with extra kit, including LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, a powered driver’s seat, leather upholstery, heated rear seats, a powered tailgate, adaptive cruise control, smart parking assistance, front parking sensors and an upgraded sound system.

GT is a faster version of the ProCeed, so comes as its own trim level. On top of GT-Line, the GT boasts 18-inch wheels, red accents, dual exhausts, faux leather and suede-effect upholstery, park assist, LED headlights and a GT Performance mode for the instrument cluster.

Kia ProCeed interior and technology

The basic interior is shared with the standard Kia Ceed, but the ProCeed gets a host of sporty nice bits. The upholstery is different to a normal Ceed, the steering wheel has a flat bottom like a racing car’s, there’s gloss black trim and there are also shiny metal pedals.

Earlier cars come with an eight-inch infotainment system; this was boosted to 10.25 inches on post-2021 cars. Regardless of the screen you get, you’re guaranteed DAB radio, built-in sat nav, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Newer cars in GT-Line S spec also get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, replacing a small screen in between analogue dials.

Kia ProCeed boot space and dimensions

Despite its swoopy shape, the ProCeed is still impressively practical. The 594-litre boot is only a few litres down on the boxier Ceed Sportswagon. That’s measured to the parcel shelf – clearly if you load to the roof you’ll fit more in the Ceed SW than the ProCeed.

The ProCeed is just over 4.6 metres long and it’s quite low, making it look sleek and elongated.

Kia ProCeed engine range explained

Kia ProCeed 1.4 T-GDi petrol

This was the ProCeed’s entry-level petrol engine when it was launched. It produces 140hp and hits 0-62mph in around nine seconds, yet should return around 45mpg. Automatic and manual gearboxes are available.

Kia ProCeed 1.5 T-GDi petrol

All new ProCeeds come with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which replaced the 1.4 engine. It’s more powerful, with 156hp, and is slightly quicker off the line. But it’s also slightly more economical, returning 48mpg.

Kia ProCeed 1.6 T-GDi petrol

All these engines sound very similar, don’t they? But the 1.6 petrol is the faster range-topper, with 204hp and a brisk 0-62mph time of around seven seconds. It’ll return around 39mpg.

Kia ProCeed 1.6 CRDi diesel

As we write this, only 7% of the ProCeeds on sale are diesel, so your choice is pretty limited if you want a long-distance mile-munching ProCeed. With 136hp and a 10-second 0-62mph time, it doesn’t really match the ProCeed’s sporty image. This engine is much more widely available in the Kia Ceed Sportswagon – get one in a GT-Line trim and it looks almost as sporty as the ProCeed.

Kia ProCeed FAQs

Previous generations were called the pro_cee’d and were three-door versions of the five-door Ceed hatchback. Thankfully, the new ProCeed is no longer a punctuation soup and is much more practical than before. The latest ProCeed went on sale in January 2019 and was facelifted in October 2021.

While a Ceed Sportswagon is ultimately more practical, the Kia ProCeed is a top choice if you want something very stylish but also capable of carrying a load of stuff. It has the low ride height of a hatchback and is good to drive, and benefits from the strengths of the standard Ceed – including a seven-year warranty and economical engines.
