VOLVO V40 Car Review
A very shapely premium hatchback
Tired of buying German premium hatchbacks? Check out the Volvo V40 for a very shapely alternative.
The Volvo V40 is not only sexier and more stylish than either the BMW 1 Series or the Mercedes A Class, but it has all the practicality you’d expect from Volvo.
And for my money the Volvo V40 has a classier interior than its German rivals, that has a very Scandinavian flavour, featuring Volvo’s floating centre console that sets it apart from just about any other cars on the road. Volvo’s have a calmness about the interior that make them more like sitting in your own front room on your favourite armchair than sitting in a car.
The Volvo V40 is also a good driving package with a smooth gearbox, responsive steering and a new range of diesel and petrol engines that have brought them close to the best the Germans have to offer. Fuel economy from the new 1.6 diesel is dramatically improved rising to close to 80 mpg for the most fuel efficient version, even the petrol returns around 50 mpg.
As well as practicality any Volvo is super safe with a host of the latest technology making the V40 one of the safest cars on the road. If you thought you had to buy a German model to get a premium hatchback, think again, the V40 is a genuine contender.
