The compact 500 crossover that looks the part
Fiat have had several spin-off models from the hugely successful 500 super-mini, but none have worked as well as the 500X.
The 500X is a compact crossover but unlike the dumpy people carrier 500L, this one looks the business. It’s like a 500 on steroids but it doesn’t look too bulky, it looks smart from any angle and it‘s easy to drive and park at just over 4.2 metres.Inside you get a funky modern interior with useful space for four, although the boot is tight at 245 litres.
When it comes to the engine you get the tried and tested choice of 1.4 and 1.6 petrol or the 1.6 or 2 litre diesel. I would recommend the smaller diesel because you get in excess of 60 mpg compared to around 45 mpg on the petrols.
The only problem with all the compact crossover’s is the high price to buy new, which is why buying nearly new at several thousand pounds less turns the 500X into a shrewd buy. And you can pick up a high specified model without paying a small fortune.
