The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Frank Jonas along with Lady Mayoress Mrs Joy Maddox JP joined the Motorpoint team recently to mark the official opening of Motorpoint’s newest store on 29 April 2022.
The 17th store to be opened by the UK’s largest independent retailer of nearly new vehicles point the opening of the new 1.5 acre site in the Hilsea area of Portsmouth followed a multi-million-pound investment which has transformed the former derelict site into stylish store with a with up to 120 nearly new cars and vans on display.
Motorpoint officially opened the doors to its new Portsmouth store recently following a blue-ribbon ceremony undertaken by Portsmouth’s Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress to mark the occasion.
The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Portsmouth were welcomed to Motorpoint Portsmouth by Motorpoint’s CEO Mark Carpenter and spent time looking around the store, browsing a wide range of vehicles from small city cars to SUV’s as well as EV’s and larger family sized ‘people carriers’ and light commercial vans.
The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress enjoyed chatting to the new staff and finding out about Motorpoint’s charity and sports sponsorship outreach plans with local Portsmouth clubs and charities. As part of its community outreach programme Motorpoint is supporting local charity body Pompey in the Community and from next season Motorpoint is principal sponsor at Portsmouth FC and is the 'back of the shorts' sponsor for Portsmouth FC’s Women’s team.
The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Cllr Frank Jonas said: “It’s brilliant news that Motorpoint has chosen the great waterfront city of Portsmouth as its first store location on the south coast. They are providing jobs and career opportunities which is great for the local economy and have transformed a derelict site in the heart of Hilsea into a space where people can find high quality used cars which are 100 percent clean air compliant. We are delighted to welcome Motorpoint to Portsmouth.”

SMC Facilities Management are one of Motorpoint’s refurbishment contractors.
