What Ford models are there? 

Ford offers a wide range of models in the UK. The range kicks off with the compact Ka Plus – ideally sized for slicing through city streets. Plus models gain black plastic cladding around the bumpers and wheelarches, giving them a chunky SUV-inspired look and helping to protect from car park dents and scrapes.

Moving up a size, you’ll find the ever-popular Ford Fiesta. This excellent all-rounder is one of Britain’s most popular small cars and, if you get behind the wheel, you’ll soon see why. Grippy, reassuring handling and smooth, peppy engines make it a hoot to drive – and it’s a perfect first car too.

If you’re after a city-friendly car but need a little more space for passengers and cargo, take a look at the Ford Focus. The Focus offers a similar package to the Fiesta – fun handling and a comfortable, surefooted ride – but adds a welcome dose of cabin and boot space.

The Mondeo has been something of an icon in the Ford range since it came to symbolise aspirational Brits since the late 1990s. Ford’s range of SUVs might be more popular, but the Mondeo is still an excellent choice if you need a larger car and don’t fancy the crossover image.

Got kids? You might want to look at Ford’s range of MPVs. The lineup starts with the C-Max and slightly larger Grand C-Max, with the former offering five spacious seats and lots of headroom, making loading child seats easy. The Grand C-Max adds an extra two seats to the package along with sliding-rear doors making it easy to load the car.

If you need even more space, consider a look at the Ford Galaxy – this chunky MPV comes with seven large seats, each spacious enough for a full-sized adult.

Finally, if you’re something of a thrill seeker, Ford offers the Mustang muscle car. Its long bonnet and chiselled good looks immediately mark it out as something special, and the roar from the optional 5.0-litre V8 engine will leave a smile on your face for miles to come.

Yes. If you fancy a Ford powered by batteries, you’ve currently got just one option, but at least it’s a good one. The Mustang Mach-E is a long-range electric SUV that’s just the right size for family buyers.

Under the floor, you get a choice of either a 70kWh battery pack that returns up to 273 miles on a full charge, or you can spec the optional 91kWh pack that can go as far as 372 miles on a full tank of electrons. Rear-wheel drive comes as standard but you can select twin-motor all-wheel drive for even faster acceleration.

The smallest Ford SUV you can buy in the UK is the EcoSport crossover. This model is barely any bigger than the Fiesta on which it’s based but offers a little more interior space thanks to its taller body.

Moving one size up brings you to the Puma – Ford’s most recent addition to its SUV lineup. Like the EcoSport, the Kuga is based on the Fiesta platform, but offers slightly more space for passengers and luggage. Unlike the EcoSport, which keeps the more traditional upright styling you’d expect from an SUV, the Puma looks lower, wider and a fair bit meaner.

The best Ford SUV choice for family buyers is the Kuga. This model will comfortably seat five adults without complaint, along with their luggage, and comes with all the features modern drivers expect, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Kuga offers both hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines, helping keep fuel bills down.

EcoBoost is a brand name for Ford’s range of modern turbocharged petrol engines. Adding a turbo helps these engines produce more power without using much more fuel than a non-turbocharged engine would. EcoBoost engines are used across the company’s lineup all the way from the Fiesta hatchback up to the GT supercar. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine found in the Fiesta and Puma is so compact, it can fit within the space of an A4 piece of paper.

ST-Line is a trim level offered across several Ford models including the Fiesta, Kuga and Focus. As the name suggests, these models get styling upgrades inspired by the full-fat ST high-performance models, including deeper front and rear bumpers, and larger alloy wheels. ST-Line models don’t get the same powerful engines as proper ST models, but get some handy optional extras such as sat-nav and lower, stiffer suspension.
