Motorpoint is definitely feeling in the pink after raising over £4,000 for Breast Cancer Care after it held a ‘Pink Friday’ event across its five sites, with even the company’s website logo transforming from its usual orange into the glorious shade of pink for the day.

The UK’s leading car supermarket’s 350 plus colleagues turned out in force to support ‘Pink Friday’ with activities including wearing pink fancy dress, raffles, sale of pink cupcakes and some staff even indulging in a ‘Pin the Bra’ poster game!

Motorpoint’s sites in Peterborough, Derby, Glasgow, Newport and Burnley, as well its Customer Service call centre, all embraced the day helping to raise over £4,000,which was double the amount raised in 2010.

October is Breast Cancer awareness month and the charity, Breast Cancer Care, has been encouraging everyone to liven up Fridays this month by organising a fun activity at home, school or in the workplace to support the 50,000 people who are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK.

Motorpoint is sponsoring Sharnelle (19), from Nottingham, as she travels to London to compete in the pageant which saw over 2,000 girls apply for the chance to represent England. Sharnelle has made it to the final 50 ladies who will be vying for the coveted Miss. England title on 20^th October, which will see the winner travelling to the Bahamas in December to represent their country as well as claim a prestigious modelling contract as a prize.

Sharnelle has experience of representing England in the Miss. Motors World competition over in Cannes and Monaco, and will do the same in 2012, making an appearance on the starting grid of the Monaco Grand Prix as well as other events. Sharnelle’s other achievements include being crowned Miss. Teen Nottingham in 2009, as well as being an accomplished dancer and actress. 

The sponsorship will help fund Sharnelle in her dream to become Miss. England. Sharnelle said; “I love doing pageants as they make you more confident, are good fun and give you plenty of opportunities by opening doors. I want to win the American Dream Pageant because representing England has always been a dream and I would feel very proud to win and be one step closer to trying for the world title.

“Motorpoint is a great representative of the UK having been firmly established and built in Britain, so I am really grateful that they are helping to give me the chance to pursue my goal to become Miss. England.”

Motorpoint is celebrating today after Lucy Garner, member of its women’s’ Pro Cycling team secured Great Britain’s first gold medal of the 2011 UCI World Championships in Copenhagen in the junior women’s road race.

Lucy, 16, from Leicestershire, is one of cycling’s rising stars and has excelled for Motorpoint this season along with the rest of the team who have all been in fine form.

As well as representing the UK in the UCI World Championships, Lucy was also selected to be part of the Great Britain team at the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Isle of Man, where she also won gold for the road race and her team-mate, Hannah Barnes, also a Motorpoint rider, won bronze.

Lucy, who came back in the UCI World Championships to secure the gold medal for the UK and be crowned 2011 Junior World Champion by several bike lengths after crashing earlier in the race, described her win as “amazing” and showed her patriotism by reportedly competing with her nails painted with the Union Jack flag.

The talented young rider is also part of the Olympic Development Programme, along with other members of the Motorpoint team, Hannah Barnes and Harriet Owen, meaning her star is sure to continue rising in the future.
