Motorpoint officially opens London showroom and unveils two further sites for 2013

22nd March 2013

The official launch of Motorpoint Chingford

Alex Rose, Google UK automotive industry manager speaking at the official launch of Motorpoint Chingford

Motorpoint, the UK's leading car supermarket, has officially opened its new site in Chingford, Essex and announced plans for a new site in Birmingham to open in July.

To mark the official launch of the new showroom in Essex, a special event was held, which included a presentation by Google on how buyers are using the Internet to help them find their ideal car.

The 3.7-acre site in Essex is the national chain's sixth, and is the company's first site in the South East to date, and expects to sell around 5,000 low-mileage, new and nearly new cars and used cars this year. The opening of the site marks the beginning of an expansion plan that will see another two Motorpoint sites open in 2013.

The new Motorpoint site in Birmingham, expected to open in the second half of the year, is expected to sell 4,000 retail and 2,500 trade cars in its first full year of trading. The company is also looking to open its eighth dealership towards the end of 2013, increasing its national footprint even further.

With an 18% increase in sales in the last 12 months, Motorpoint is bucking the economic trend, and proving that the key to success is customer satisfaction. On average, the group sells a car every 7 minutes 12 seconds, and saved its customers £171 million last year – comparing the discounted price of its cars to the list price.

Titled ‘Clicks & Bricks’, the Chingford opening discussed some of the issues facing the used car industry and how buyers use the Internet to search for cars before setting foot on the forecourt. Alex Rose from Google presented research showing buyers’ online habits, before Motorpoint’s Chairman, Mark Morris, explained the car supermarket’s approach to ensuring that customers stay satisfied.

"This is a significant step for Motorpoint," explained owner and managing director, David Shelton. "We want to bring our winning formula of great deals and happy customers to Essex and London, and we're proud of our new site here in the South East.” With space for 500 cars on the forecourt, the new Chingford site will serve Essex and Greater London, as well as Hertfordshire, Kent and Buckinghamshire.

The new Motorpoint Chingford showroom is located on Lea Valley Road, Chingford, E4 7PX and is open seven days a week.

MOTORPOINT RESPONDS TO THE BUDGET 2012

WEDNESDAY 21ST MARCH 2012

-          Motorpoint “disappointed” that there will be no change to the planned rise in fuel duty

-          Issue crucial to millions of motorists including the 80% of www.motorpoint.co.uk visitors who say they are taking less car journeys due to rising fuel costs

-          Government plans to look at more private investment into the road network also unpopular with Motorpoint’s website visitors with 85% believing this is a bad idea for UK motorists

-          Motorpoint calls on the Chancellor to review his decision on fuel duty

David Shelton, Managing Director, Motorpoint said; “Motorpoint is disappointed that the Chancellor has announced that there will be no change to the planned rise in fuel duty, meaning there will be a 3p per litre price rise from 1 August.

“It seems that fuel duty has been put on the back burner in the Budget, which is frustrating when the cost of running a car and the soaring expense of fuel is crucial to millions of motorists every day – so much so that a recent poll of our website users showed 80% of motorists are cutting down on car journeys due to the cost of fuel.

“The Government’s plans to ask Whitehall to look at getting more private investment into the road network which may mean road tolling for new roads, has also proved very unpopular with our website visitors, with 85% currently voting against this decision, believing it to be a bad idea for UK motorists.

“The fuel duty rise in August will certainly mean a rise in in fuel prices, which is bad news for the everyday motorists who are being seriously affected by increasing fuel costs. What we want is for people to enjoy owning a car again without the burden of heavy taxes, which will in turn stimulate the economy.

“We would call on the Chancellor to review his decision on fuel duty and put it at the forefront of his mind as it is clearly at the forefront of the minds of the millions of motorists in the UK.”

80% OF MOTORISTS ARE CUTTING DOWN ON CAR JOURNEYS DUE TO RISING FUEL COSTS ACCORDING TO MOTORPOINT SURVEY

THURSDAY 1ST MARCH 2012

The rising cost of fuel is causing UK motorists to cut down on the number of car journeys they take, according to a survey by Motorpoint.

The UK’s leading car supermarket polled its website users to ask whether they are cutting down on car journeys as a result of fuel prices reaching a record high of 150.9p a litre for diesel and a huge 80% said they were.

With recent figures showing the UK pays the highest fuel tax in Europe, times are hard for the British motorist and features like the MPG offered by a car are becoming increasingly important to prospective car buyers.

Attracting around 12,000 visitors per day, www.motorpoint.co.uk’s ‘Green Cars’ section is consistently one of the most popular pages on the site, with customers searching for not only the highest savings, but also vehicles which will cost less to run.

Such a high percentage of people planning to take less car journeys can only be a worry for the economy and the UK’s automotive industry which, according to figures from the SMMT, contributes a typical net value of over £8.5bn and employs in excess of 700,000 people.

David Shelton, Managing Director, Motorpoint, said; “Our poll shows that rising fuel costs are seriously affecting today’s UK motorists and should be a warning to the Government that action is needed on fuel duty.

“We want people to enjoy owning a car again, without the burden of heavy taxes, which will in turn stimulate the economy. This is why we consistently offer the best savings on our cars, providing a viable way for cash strapped Brits to buy a car without breaking the bank.”

Customers who have to use their cars every day,  like the 20% who voted they weren’t using their car less, and who rely on their cars to commute etc., may be interested to hear that Motorpoint has just added its cheapest ever 2010 year vehicles to its stock list.

A choice of ’59 plate Chevrolet Matiz 1.0 SE+ models with mileages all under 16k, are available now from Motorpoint at just £3,999, offering a customer saving of £5,412*. They include metallic paint, standard air con and the balance of the manufacturer’s warranty. An extended guarantee package is also available from Motorpoint.
