Pro-Cycling Team
04 February 2010
Motorpoint officially unveiled its pro-cycling team yesterday in Derby.
The company has broken with tradition once again by becoming the first car supermarket to launch its own professional cycling team in the UK.
Led by Ed Clancy MBE, a member of the 2008 Olympic team pursuit squad that won gold in Beijing, the Motorpoint Pro-Cycling Team will compete in all of the premier UK cycling events, including the British Premier Calendar, Tour Series and the Tour of Britain together with a number of high-profile races in Europe and Asia. The team are set to get their first taste of action at the Eddie Soens Singapore Criteria in Singapore in March followed by the Cintron Tour Majorca in early April.
Joining Clancy in the saddle will be fellow GB team pursuiter Andy Tennant, together with Malcolm Elliott, Ian Bibby, Andrew Roche and Steven Burke among others. The team will be run by Keith Lambert, formerly Team Manager at Halfords Bikehut.
Says Gary Warren, Managing Director of Motorpoint: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have unveiled the Motorpoint Pro-Cycling Team. Motorpoint has always sought to do things a little differently and this is a great example of our ambition to excel on two as well as four wheels both in the UK and abroad.”
